The secret reason for Netanyahu's timing on Iran war

Why are you putting this old column (Aug. 29) on your website now (Sept. 27). It is clearly out of date and irrelevant. The Democratic National COnvention is well past. Can't you find something more up to date to publish?

There is some deception taking place what exactly it is , is it just to put panic to the people and to keep things as they are without change. what ever it is people should not be affected. Those who are barely making ends meet should not be affected. The sky is falling cry of some leaders should not put panic in people. They are also trying to make ends meet.

is a disaster for Israel.

Surely Israel can throw up a better leader than Netanyahu. If this article is taken at face value, Netanyahu is a political fool. I doubt that American policy re Iran will be substantially different under Obama or Romney. Regardless of rightwing Jewish money flowing to the Republicans, unless it is the interests of the US to attack Iranian nuclear sites it will not attack. If re-elected, Obama will have bigger things on his plate than some sort of personal vendetta against an Israeli leader who appears to be universally disliked by all who have the misfortune to have to deal with him. Nation states simply don't go to war on the basis of their personal relationships and certainly not nation states which are trying to extract themselves from the disasterous consequences of two ME wars.

I, along with most US and Israeli military and security experts, and probably a majority of Americans and Israelis, believe that attacking Iran would convert a potential catastrophe into a definite one, with today's worldwide fragile economy turning into a severe recession or depression, as oil prices surge, with Israel being bombarded with missiles, with a sharp increase in terrorism, anti-Semitism and anti-Americanism, with the potential of a widespread war, costing much money and many lives, and with Iran’s nuclear potential set back possibly by only a few years and with Iran more determined than ever to gain a nuclear weapon. Iran must recognize that their use of a nuclear weapon would be suicidal, with Iran devastated for many years. Also, Iran should be convinced they could gain economically and in other ways by cooperation rather than confrontation. Instead of wasting lives and money by an attack on Iran, there should be a global Marshall-type plan, led by the US, Israel, and other developed nations, to help sharply reduce poverty, hunger, illiteracy, illness, pollution, and other societal ills. My ideas may sound utopian, but as author Buckminster Fuller put it, we may have a choice today between utopia and oblivion.

I pray for a day when the Jewish left loves Israel more than they hate Netanyahu.

Netanyahu is facing elections next summer and he has a winter of discontent ahead of him: Deteriorating economy, layoffs, austerity, the widening gap between rich and poor. This is really what worries him, not bringing down Obama, which he knows he cannot do.
