Preaching – and practicing – media freedom in the Middle East
Despite its poor record, the Middle East's media – especially in the post-revolutionary states of Egypt and Tunisia – have discovered a new appetite for freedom. They are catching up with the freedom of expression associated with Israel – but at a time when Israel itself is showing more intolerance of dissent.
Despite all the sacrifices made by citizens and journalists across the Middle East and North Africa, the region has come in bottom of the global media freedom league, according to the recently released 2013 Press Freedom Index (PFI).
