The unpleasant truth is that an independent Palestinian West Bank state would be a huge threat to Israel, a hostile neighbor dividing Israel physically, with a porous Jordanian border and a significant number of citizens who believe in the destruction of Israel. I find it hard to believe after Gaza that there is ANY Israeli who thinks land can be traded for peace. In fact, the UN can say what it wants. They can issue lip-flap after lip-flap about illegality and fairness but none of those babblers have to live under the constant threat of attack and not one of them has ever had 20,000 rockets fired into their back yard. They eat well in New York and go to sleep safe. In fact, after decades of lip-flap in the League of Nations, the UN effectively tossed Israel to the wolves in '47 and restricted its activities to giving unwanted advice and making demands like the mother-in-law from hell. In the real world, what is happening now is the tend. The UN dishes out bull, the Arabs refuse to negotiate and little by little the developers gobble up the West Bank like an army of termites. I have never heard of a nation stronger or more singular in intent than the developers. The Palestinians, standing on their honor, will continue to refuse settlement, will continue to be marginalized, will continue to see their future pecked away by their stubbornness. Eventually the Arabs will run out of oil, their "friends" will abandon them and the bits of terror they will throw up will be like the Basque Separatist movement, decade after decade. It may not be a nice picture but it is the real one.

you say "people who want nothing more than to live on their land and raise their children in their own country" what you do not say is that they view israel as their own country. the more obstacles terror supporters face, the better.
