Most of us don't want apartheid

The Jewish Israeli problem is not the apartheid, but the deep rooted segregation, inter-religious, inter- and inner-ethnic (sephardim vs. mizrachim vs. ashkenazim, vs. Ethiopian, vs. Indian/Pakistani/Burmese, vs. South American indigenous Jewish converts, and so on, and so on.) No, I have no envy to influence the life of my Israeli brethren. I leave it all up to them to do what ever they want. But I allow myself to tell them what I think and how I see the development of the the society I once thought of as being another step in the progress of mankind. Now I rather see it as involution of the people in Israel who call themselves Jews, but are it less by the day.

I will admit here, that I never considered the ultra-nationalist, often religious, too, Israeli misconfiguration of humanism, moral, politics and society as being based on apartheid. No, it is based on TOTAL segregation, something much worse than the South African Apartheid because it encompasses more than the apartheid: Ethnic segregation, religious segregation, geographic origins segregation, ideological (Zionist) segregation, gender segregation, and ... and ...

Jews object "and rightly so" to letting Palestinians in the territories vote for Knesset. But they do not object to jews living in the same territories today and still voting for Knesset. The current situation, not any future one, is de-facto apartheid, when political rights and citizenship are given to one group living in the territories and not another. The question "is there apartheid in Israel" lets people pretend Israel is a political unit distinct from the territories. It is NOT as long as Jews can go back and forth as they please, build houses and families in the territories, etc. The question allows you and others feel good about a fig leaf. That's all it is. De facto, Israel and the territories are one unit, with a separate legal system only for non-Israeli, and citizenship granted only (de facto) to Jews. There is a lot of emotional effort in rejecting this. Spend some of that effort in rejecting the settlements, instead.

If there is any logic or journalistic credibility to this outlet, then you will append a link to this article to the bottom of Gideon Levy's mathematically challenged conclusions in the his article - if you do not intend to entirely retract it, of course. Levy's article should never have made it past the editorial fact-checkers in the first place, as I think you should already know.

Sure, if Jews claim to be smart - then Jews must be able to produce smart solutions. Or just shut up. Wise victorious remedies were created and fully developed by our institute long time ago. Mr Ben Meir, you have not appraised the situation in a fair and balanced way. The state of Israel has been created at the expense of a Palestinian state. Israel holds power over the Palestinians. And the situation that exists is unjust. Like many Israelis, you seem to be saying: "We have to tolerate the injustice to keep what we want". Most right-thinking people think that justice should have primacy over state religiosity, itself an aberration in today's secular world. In Jewish statehood, the non-jew is by definition a second class citizen: hence, the accusation of apartheid. Far better (more just) to have a single state with democratic rights for Palestinians - and worry about the "jewishness" of the state later. It would take courage to do that, but the present situation amounts to oppression. The inability of many Israelis to see that is surely a most impressive example of mass brainwashing.

Israel is not an "apartheid " state, and absolutely, Israel stands to make many improvements and serious decisions for its future society to sustain its democracy.
