I am delighted that this leading Israeli newspaper features articles from people such as Ashwari. Imagine an piece written by a prominent Israeli that articulates a Zionist view being featured in an Iranian daily or for that matter, any mainstream paper in an Arab country? Oh Khaled, you will find no shortage of Israeli scholars agreeing with Ashwari - you see in the democracy that is Israel, people are encouraged to air their own opinions and no be intimidated to criticise the government or policies.

the palestinians have a people which is recognized by most countries in the world and international organizations. They have a land, history, cultural heritage (Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Hebron), anthem, music, government, institutions, universities, perfectly well educated people...........and they live under occupation. Please keep your comments for yourself and meet up with of them. You might learn something.

The reason why so many who identify as Palestinians live outside of its borders is because Israel prevents them from returning. Your reference to this fact is though, as Ashrawi identified, an attempt to deceive. The fact is, the Palestinians do have a permanent resident population. Condition 1 met. As another has already identified, Israel prevents condition 2 and hasn't itself even met this condition. The Palestinians do have a government, Israel has acknowledged as much by transferring tax revenues to it. Tick for 3 and tick for 4 which is already in place. Now go and see if you've got a rabbit you can pull out of your hatch.

Just a rebuttal for you ben, I hope you'll read it with an open mind: 1. In terms of having a permanent population for a state, Israel Had the Palestinian majority expelled, then later imported only Jews to replace them and create a Jewish democracy. 2. Israel got whatever border it wanted, and when it signed the armistice, the west accepted it. But I agree with you, about borders not being permanent, they never really are. As far as you citing UN resolutions, great! UNSC 242 is a good start, as well as UNSC 194 which demands the return of the refugees. Unless you're cherry picking. 3. Yes, they do have a government, and elections. If the government is not to your liking, then that's a different matter. The matter of unifying the different parties and factions, is the matter of unifying The Gaza Strip & the West Bank, it takes place out of necessity when that happens. 4. Most states in the UNGA are in favour of relations with Palestine (including the United States!), Taking the point that Hamas isn't liked by some states, (is true) but not the by all & end all of Palestinian relations with others, (for example the Qatari emirs' visit this week, and the rebuilding projects he offered).

You can wish whatever you want, suggest what you want - we are all here and we will all stay here. the 2 state solution is still on the table, and it is the only REALISTIC solution.
