If Netanyahu is pushed into talks but enters them with the intention of not changing the status quo, any brownie points he earns will soon be lost. He has to show that he is prepared to achieve a 2-state settlement based on the 67 line, negotiated land swaps and EJ as Palestine's capital. If not, the Palestinians will not be prepared to reach a resolution and Netanyahu will once again be shown as a fraud, a man who entered talks but only to ensure that they achieved nothing. By now the world knows that Netanyahu is the master of being seen to do something (for example, the Bar Ilan speech) in order to do nothing. Therefore it is not sufficient that he enters talks to change how many view him. That can only happen when one sees whether or not he is ready to comply with one of the many blueprints for a resolution that have already been drawn up under different guises over the years.
