A day they fabricated
The gaps between Haredim on one side and religious and secular Israeli Jews on the other go beyond military service and workforce participation. The ultra-Orthodox want to maintain their separatist way of life and to continue to see the state as, at best, a funding source to be exploited as fully as possible.
On Monday, April 15, Independence Day Eve, a letter went out to parents informing them: "School will be closed Tuesday on account of 'a day they fabricated.' The children must be guarded closely that day so that, God forbid, their holiness shall not be lost."
