No yeshiva deferments in the Purim story
The Purim story teaches us that no Jew has the right to opt out of defending our people – including the Haredim, whose self-serving prayers apparently don’t include the rest of us.
The funhouse sideshow of Haredi life in Israel and in the New York area bursts forth every Purim, as the ultra-Orthodox transform themselves into fez-wearing Turks, medieval noblemen and so on.
