A racist can't be chief rabbi? In Israel?
The attorney general found a flaw in Eliyahu - the rabbi denounced the sale or rental of housing to Arabs. A pretty hollow claim, coming from the attorney general of a country that establishes hundreds of communities, neighborhoods and towns that are off-limits to Arabs.
The position of chief rabbi is a very powerful one - as a matter of fact it is one of the most powerful in the country. Not because he is the exclusive provider of religious services, or because of the grotesque monopoly that he and his minions received over the word "kosher." Not even by virtue of its absolute control over the ritual baths and their attendants.
