A man was arrested late Tuesday night on suspicion of murdering his wife in their Ofakim apartment.
Yuri Lobachov is suspected of stabbing his wife, Rita, to death with a knife in the couple's apartment in Ofakim. The body of the 50-year-old woman was found yesterday afternoon by a relative, who then called the police.
The nature of the stab wounds on the body raised police suspicions that the woman had been murdered. The suspect told the Be'er Sheva Magistrate's Court yesterday that he believed his wife had had an affair with another man.
Police asked that his remand be extended by 15 days, but later reached an agreement with the suspect's lawyer to extend his remand by eight days.
Lobachov told the court that his wife had attacked him and he was simply defending himself.
He admitted committing the crime during police questioning and even reenacted the murder. He also said he had confessed to a relative that he had murdered his wife because she "had a lover."
Lobachov is suspected of murder, threats and assault under aggravated circumstances.
