Would-be airliner bomber: There are many like me in Yemen
Messages believed posted by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab online reveal a man torn between Islam and temptation.
By Natasha Mozogavaya Tags: al-Qaida Israel newsThe messages likely posted by failed airliner bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab on an Islamic web forum reveal a young man who suffers from loneliness and struggles between a commitment to Islam and the temptations of the West.
23-year-old Abdulmutallab attempted to blow up a Northwest Airlines flight as it approached Detroit from Amsterdam on Christmas Day with almost 300 people on board.
Abdulmutallab, the youngest of 16 children of a prominent Nigerian banker, spent most of his youth in prestigious boarding schools. When he posted on the web forum using the moniker Farouk1986, he complained of loneliness and an inability to find companions who understand his commitment to Islam.
"I have no one to speak too, no one to consult, no one to support me and I feel depressed and lonely. I do not know what to do... loneliness leads me to other problems," Farouk1986 wrote in a post.
He also writes of his dilemma between his natural urges and his desire to obey Islam. "As I get lonely, the natural sexual drive awakens and I struggle to control it, sometimes leading to minor sinful activities like not lowering the gaze. And this problem makes me want to get married to avoid getting aroused," Farouk said. He mentions that his religion instructed him to fast in order to avoid such temptation, but said that it didn't seem to be working.
Officials have not yet confirmed that the internet postings by Farousk1986were written by Abdulmutallab, but the many biographical details written by the poster match reports about Abdulmutallab's life.
Abdulmutallab told U.S. investigators that he is only one of many trained in Yemen who plan to attack Western targets. "There are more just like me who will strike soon," he warned.
According to ABC news, FBI sources claim that Abdulmutallab underwent a month-long training in Yemen, and during this training he learned how to detonate explosives and how to pass the security check by sewing the explosives to his underwear. ABC also reported that two former inmates of Gunatanamo prison were among the architects of the attempted terror attack.
Yemen's foreign minister said on Tuesday that there are over 300 Al-Qaeda activists in his country and requested intelligence aid from the West.
CNN also reported on Tuesday that U.S. and Yemeni officials were looking at fresh targets for a possible retaliation strike in Yemen, citing two unidentified American officials.
The officials stressed that efforts were aimed at being ready with options in the event that U.S. President Barack Obama orders a retaliatory strike, CNN reported. It said the officials were trying to identify targets linked directly to the airline incident.

"America puts an end to its most ill-advised relations with Israel" America should do that for it's own sake. Israel is a political, financial and moral liability to America.
H is right: Israelis are part of the problem. However, al-Qa'eda has offered the US an open-ended truce if the American military and intelligence contingents leave the Middle East and other Muslim lands and America puts an end to its most ill-advised relations with Israel. Yes, al-Qa'eda has committed some regrettable excesses, but its leaders are honorable religious folk who will observe a firm truce if the US meets its requirements.
We know that the rise in Anti Islam is enormous and likewise with Antisemitism. Who would you say people were more afraid of, Jews or Muslims? As Jews we must do our bit to avoid catastrophe by showing our solidarity against the expansionist Policies of consecutive Israeli Governments. The Israelis must see that they are not the Solution but they are definitely part of the problem. Muslems have to wake up to the fact that they are responsible for the murder of Millions of Muslems in Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan etc....and that these murders have NOTHING to do with Israel.
