GLASGOW -- Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron and First Minister of the Scottish Executive Alex Salmond met Monday in Edinburgh to finalize the details of the referendum for the independence of Scotland, which will take place in the autumn of 2014.

Can't say that any cause I've seen for Scottish independence doesn't fall into the light and transient catagory. Getting a higher percentage of oil income for a decade or two? So what.

  Getting a better standard of living for our poorest. Getting back our historic reputation for having the best education system in the world. Keeping our much loved free national health service.Being able to say no to funding illegal wars instead of supporting our people. Saying no to having our people live under the cloud of being in a first strike area.

Also the Scottish parliament was RE-established as a result of a Scottish referendum NOT "government in London agreed to establish a Scottish Parliament". Until 1707 when it was dissolved, Scotland had one of the world's oldest parliaments. You failed to mention that since May of last year the SNP has had a majority government, not a minority one. The Scottish First Minister, Alex Salmond, is hugely popular in Scotland.

Not the "Scottish Executive". And even suggesting that the Scots are xenophobic because they want independence is insulting. Is Israel xenophobic because it is independent? The Scottish National Party is an inclusive left-of-center party with members of all races and national backgrounds.
