Former Nebraska senator Chuck Hagel owes his appointment as America’s next secretary of defense to UN Ambassador Susan Rice, New York Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer and to the packs of overzealous mudslingers who hounded him from the moment his candidacy was conceived.

FYI. Amb. Rice was never nominated for the SOS position. She and Kerry were both considered front runners so because she was never nominated she could not have been abandoned by the President and he vigorously defended her every time he was asked. You media types really must learn to get your facts straight. Also, according to Kerry he was offered the position before Rice removed her name from consideration. Most Americans are far more concerned about our own national and security interests and not that of Israel.

- By CEE Observer

If that were correct, then please explain why a succession of Defense, Military and other (current) Israeli Establishment figures (excluding the Prime Minister), have ALL paid tribute to the level of support from the Obama Administration, stating unequivocally that defense and intelligence sharing are at higher levels than they have ever been. Binyamin - you have been listening to too much Republican Right wing, and other limited focus (and very biased and just plain wrong), outpourings. I believe that some people need a reality check.

04 40 0Republicans Just Went Too Far
- By cat
- 27 Feb 2013

I'm still amazed by that Senate Hearing. Every day that passes, the Gop become more extreme like the Tea Party. The House can't even govern anymore they've become so extreme. It looks like the Senate Gop are catching up fast. Hagel is a good guy, but he can be blunt. I always liked that quality in him because most politicians are hard to pin down. I don't think he harbors any ill will towards Israel at all. He always voted yes when military aid for Israel was needed. He'll do everything he can to keep you safe. He knows that's a high priority for the president. I don't think the Republicans realize how much respect they've lost with the American people since they went Tea Party. Over 60% consider them "too extreme" and "out of touch" in polls we receive. Yet, they party on.

- By John Swanston

As the article has noted the totally over the top obsession with Israel made one wonder whether Mr Hagel was signing up to be the Defence Minister of Israel .... the question would have made sense. These Senators should be impeached for their treachery. They were called to find a suitable Secretary of Defence for their own country but chose deliberately to ignore this calling. The US Secretary of Defence has a far larger obligation than the defence of Israel. And this especially given the way that Israel choses to spit in the face of the best interests of the US and of Israel itself.
