The United States has captured one of the suspected ringleaders of the 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi that killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador, the Pentagon said on Tuesday.

A U.S. official said that Ahmed Abu Khatallah is being held on a U.S. ship.

The 2012 attack sparked a wave of criticism toward President Barak Obama and his administration for its handling of the attack and its aftermath.
