Ex-N.Y. governor Elliot Spitzer getting divorced
The former governor who resigned in 2008 amid reports of his involvement in a high-end prostitution ring, announced end of 26-year marriage, FoxNews reports.
Former New York governor Elliot Spitzer, who resigned his post in 2008 after reports he had been involved with a high-end prostitution ring, announced Tuesday that he and his wife Silda are getting divorced.
According to Fox News, the couple's relationship has been on the rocks since the scandal and on Tuesday, they announced their 26-year marriage was over.
“We regret that our marital relationship has come to an end and we have agreed not to make any other public statement on this subject,” Eliot and Silda said in a joint statement released by spokeswoman Lisa Linden.
The announcement follows the revelation that Spitzer, 54, has been dating former spokeswoman Lis Smith, 31, as revealed by photos published by The New York Post. Smith is currently Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio’s chief spokeswoman.
