For now it seems that Putin's conclusion is that beyond empty protests, the West is powerless to stand in his way while he continues to spur on his allies and safeguard his interests at any cost.
The end of an Olympics are almost always an anticlimax and much less elaborate than the opening ceremony. Russian President Vladimir Putin may have spent $51 billion of his country’s money on the Sochi Olympics, the most expensive in history, but the games ended for him on Wednesday when the Russian ice hockey team lost in the quarter-finals.
