WJC: World must boycott Ahmadinejad speech at UN
WJC President Ronald Lauder: States are obliged to show that UN cannot be hijacked for racist purposes.
By Shlomo Shamir Tags: Iran UN Israel newsThe World Jewish Congress on Monday launched a new global campaign on to convince world leaders to boycott Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's address to the United Nations General Assembly next week.
Ahmadinejad is set to speak at the General Assembly on September 23, at a special session to be opened by United States President Barack Obama.
In a petition published Monday, WJC President Ronald Lauder urged the leaders of the UN's member states to "show that the values and goals of the UN Charter will be upheld at this year's General Assembly meeting.
"We ask UN leaders to send a strong message to Ahmedinejad, who regularly uses these forums to spread invective, threats and unspeakable accusations," he said, adding that "member states have an obligation to show that the UN cannot be hijacked for the purposes of spreading the kind of racist diatribe and bigoted views which the organization was founded to combat and overcome.'

Maybe we as a world should listen to what the man is saying. As you listen hear the three kinds of attention that is needed with open ear. Are there issues of personal mindthought, are there issues of national ideas, and is there more to this that he is being pressured to repeat or say as a leader of his nation? Is there a concern of need for his nation? Is he trying to send a message and is part of his speech written for him. Is there a hidden need in his nation or is he really hating Israel? There are ways to listen to messages sent. Everyone has a brain and can decide how they think or review a thought. Do we want to look professional and not raging teenages looking for a fight. To know your enemy is the key to the solution of protecting our nation. Do we really listen to our enemies or friends, or do we want alliances for peace without losing our strength? Learn our enemies or our allies is the key. Karoon
what a amazing world full of fishy comments!! screw ahmadinejad and screw all the other lunatic and speechless politicians!!! how much "peace" requires from each and every one of us to lose??? to sacrifice? to suffer?? our politicians derive pleasure when they see all this mess around!!! why cnt we stand for a harmonious relations? freedom from disputes???
bright green with neda's picture on it, and the words "remember neda" written in their respective languages. then sit through his speach in complete silence with heads lowered. no boos...no catcalls...no sound. your silly boycott is meaningless; just going through the motions...which he fully expects. stick it to him! push his buttons! confront him! deflate him! without a word being uttered.
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1097411.html Housing Minister Ariel Atias on Thursday warned against the spread of Arab population into various parts of Israel, saying that preventing this phenomenon was no less than a national responsibility. "Populations that should not mix are spreading there. I don't think that it is appropriate [for them] to live together." So come on, Ron. You're the one who's so upset about "racist diatribes and bigoted views". Will you call for a boycott of Israel's housing minister and Bibi's government? I'm betting no, but please do surprise me. You don't even have to boycott, if you don't want. Just a strongly worded announcement that the WJC condemns Atias' views. Otherwise you could be open to an accusation of hypocrisy.
Yeah, and nobody wanted to exterminate Iran for centuries, maybe except Ottoman empire
You have a fantastic joke writer. I cant stop laughing.
Those Israels has no shame what so ever. they ask to boycut Iran and they never signed on any world agreement, never open their dimona for inspections and continue to subjegate palestinians to salvery.
I have a potato chip that seems to bear his likeness, what should i do? How about i do what eventually will be done to him?? Get it?? all you lovers of the dark side, step on over to the light.
decade after decade---you know begging for attention. Israel for example.
suggest you pass it on to the NPT. Oh and dont forget the nuclear facilities at Damona.
President Ahmadinejad doesn't lie and tell distortions like Shalev. Let him speak. The world will listen, of that I'm sure. Jews should boycott his speech. A lot less noise. Salaam/Shalom
The Iranian president is the only person In the UN who has the courage to talk about it.
The Iranian people are against Ahmadi and are demonstrating in front of UN on 23 and 24. It is a good time for American Jews to join them and show solidarity with Iranian strugle for democracy.
Because he is not the elected leader of any UN member state. Far from being the President of Iran, he (and Khomeini) are the kidnappers of it. Given that the US has refused to recognize the military coup in Honduras (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8236996.stm), they and other Western countries should likewise refuse to recognize the unelected dictators imposed by this past summer's brutal coup in Iran. But while I'd expect such opposition to dictatorship from the US, the last place I'd expect it is from the UN General Assembly, which generally supports tyrants and not the people they tyrannize.
so then, i guess you will be silent when Israel attacks the nuclear facilities ?
whats wrong....you only support boycotts when its done by the arabs ?
You bigots are a little slow. Mr Lauder may or may not be a zionist but he in no way represents Israel. The WJC is meant to represent Jews and not Israel and he speaks on behalf of a people who have been directly and indirectly threatened by this democratically and peacefully elected fellow who allows dissent.
....when Israels High Court sets a deadline for the demolition of "illegal" Palestinian homes in the West Bank, but fails to do the same for "illegal" Jewish homes there ("outposts"). How unfortunate, Mr. Lauder, how very unfortu- nate.....
Why should we boycott it?! Israel, stop begging the world to fight your battles with you. You help noone but yourselves so why should we help you.
Israel is an isolated country - with only the US to support it - its tourists are universally hated and their global PR leaves much to be desired. Israel has no voice in the world.
So the UN has invited the Holocaust-denying, opposition killing, wipe-Israel-off-the-mapping, David Duke-inviting, terrorist arming, human rights of women-denying leader of Iran to speak at the UN. What else can be expected of the UN? By the way, yesterday I added my name to the WCJ on-line petition to boycott ahmedinejad.
You must also mean Israel because the winners of the democratic Israel election didn't get into power either?
because remember that time when the Iranians said he was shining like some sort of God. I called him "The Firefly." Yeah sunglasses and flyswatters would be good also.
We'll see who Israel's real friends are and I predict not many. Lauder is absolutely correct in calling for a UN boycott of the terrorist monster from Teheran.
No Human rights violations in Iran? What does that say? you mean hanging kids, repressing Women and killing the opposition after a phoney election because they deemed it fit to protest by peaceful means doesn't constitute Human rights violations? Well at least we should all understand you now.
"Israel has in excess of 80 UNresolutions condemning it,s human rights abuses. I am not aware of any against Iran". That's probably because in Iran there are simply no such abuses.
who has 150-200 nukes but refuses to admit it. Iran has none. Israel has in excess of 80 UNresolutions condemning it,s human rights abuses. I am not aware of any against Iran. Israel has atacked several of it,s neighbours since it,s inception and robbed their lands at will and continues to do so--and openly admits it. To my best knowledge--Iran has not attacked anyone in centuries. Bit rich to listen to the leaders of the worls leading rogue state calling for Sanctions. Rich indeed.
Its time to treat Ahmadman like he did his own people after the June 12th election. Take him hostage, ship him to Israel and attach him to the first missile sent to destroy Iran's nuclear weapons.
Ahmedinejad's said some stupid things in his time, but so have Israeli leaders - remember the shoah on Gaza, and the endless threats to bomb Iran. Of course, also Ahmedinejad hasn't actually killed anybody, except maybe a few Iranians, whereas Israel has killed thousands of its neighbours over the years. My gut instinct is that while most UN member states probably aren't very keen on Ahmedinejad, they're probably even less keen on Israel's new hardline government. Want to put that to the test?
