'We will avenge Israel over murder of Iran nuclear scientist'
Tehran blames exiled opposition group of acting on behalf of Israel in assassination of professor.
By The Associated Press Tags: Iran nuclear Israel newsIran's interior minister vowed on Monday to take revenge on Israel over the mysterious bomb attack which killed a nuclear physics professor last week.
Iranian officials have blamed an exiled opposition group, accusing it of acting on behalf of Israel and the U.S. A U.S. official rejected as "absurd" the Iranian accusations that the United States had a role in the slaying.
"Charges of U.S. involvement are absurd," said a U.S. State Department official.
Israel did not comment.
Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar on Monday promised revenge on Zionists but did not elaborate.
The 50-year-old Tehran University professor, Masoud Ali Mohammadi, was killed when a bomb-rigged motorcycle exploded outside his home January 12.
It remains unclear why the researcher with no prominent political voice, no published work with military relevance and no declared links to Iran's nuclear program was targeted.

scapegoat for any adverse events or happenings in and around the Middle East.
Most likely explanation is that the killing had nothing whatsoever to do with Israel. Second most likely explanation is that he was killed by Iran security forces because they suspected him of being on israeli payroll (he had some minor academic contacts with israeli academics). Possible by more unlikely is that iranian security was right and victim was, in fact, on Mossad payroll. Even more unlikely, but still possible, is that he was on Mossad payroll, but they found out that he was a double agent and took him out, although it is hard to believe that even Mossad could operate that "cleanly" and effectively inside Tehran.
around and wait and talk and talk some more before Iran is on Israel's doorstep at the northern borderlands. Israel and the world will be taken by surprise, even though Israel will prevail.
... and this is very telling of the dictators in militant charge who direct its propaganda programming. The Iranian Regime is abusing their Allah-given right to lie to the infidels when they start and keep lying to their very own to justify their illegitimate existence and dictatorial doctrines.
He was not a nuclear scientist and he was a strong opponent of the present Iranian regime. WHat possible reason did Israel have for knocking him off? It was more likely the Iranian ruling thugs who did it - got rid of the opposition and gained a new excse to blame Israel and the USA. It's so transparent, but obviously you are more influenced by Iranian propaganda than by your own brain.
responsible, it still would not set back Iran's nuclear program as it takes many specialists, not just one scientist. It's highlt doubtful that Israel was responsible. In order to knock out or significantly slow Iran's nuke strategy, it would take a military intervention, not just idle talk and sanctions.
It is highly unlikely that Israel would have bothered to knock off an easily replaceable Persian nuclear scientist. What for pray tell? It certainly wouldn't effect Iran's drive to obtain nuclear weapons one twit. Ahmadinajad had best look closer to home for the culprits. Blaming Israel for everything that goes wrong in Iran is starting to get old and tiresome if not downright paranoid on Iran's part.
Iran's nuclear weapons program has broad support among the opposition. Mousavi explicitly said during the campaign that he would continue the nuclear program, even enhance it, without acknowledging it was a bomb program, which surely it is. The scientists and engineers working in the program are disproportionately likely to be supporters of the opposition. The regime is based on an Islamo-populist appeal. These people are educated intellectuals, not likely to be swayed by demagogues. But they are also Persian nationalists. Israel's decision to murder Mohammadi was a dual message: to all the scientists, that the regime cannot protect you, and to the opposition, that Israel will try to snuff out any Iranian bomb program, no matter who leads Iran.
!!!
Israel the criminal state has assassintated Iraqi nuclear scientists in france in the past/ Read "By Way of Deception" to understand the depth of the Mossad and its criminal activity. But Persians are not passive like Arabs, they will respond
He was a physics professor not a nuclear scientist and pro-reform. Thus Iran brought in Hizbollah hit-man from Lebanon to knock same professor off and all that just to pin false blame on mossad, and CIA.
It is obvious that the regieme in Tehran killed the scientist who opposed them. Now they are using this killing to justify their attacks against innocent Israelis. This way they can "kill 2 birds with 1 stone"!
After they killed an opposition figure and blamed it on "opposition" groups and Israel, they now have carte blanche to go all out in a terror campaign against demoncratic opponents and Israel alike. It's the perfect setup. If the world doesn't wake up and do something to stop them now we will ALL be facing nuclear blackmail at best and a nuclear holocaust at worst in the not too distant future. There is still time, but the auguries are poor.
Yeah, right ! Let's see how far Iran gets ! It would probably be in the form of a cowardly, terrorist-type attack using other groups as a proxy as Iran would fear a direct military confrontation.
was eliminated in a purge to oust those who do not "walk the line" exactly how the ruling elite commands. Simply,it was a bold-faced message to the same effect.
they promise and keep their promises
I have no doubt that Iranian history books also blame the Israelis for the death of JFK. Could the Israelis also be responsible for the $10 I lost in 6th grade?? Hmmmmm......
The meaning of the word incredible is "too extraordinary and improbable to be believed." The Supreme Junta of Iran protests too much. By making such incredible accusations it effectively indicts itself.
Military and scientific elites are quietly murdered for "subverting" the regime. Islamist fascist Iran would end up no better than the Soviet regime; on the trash heap of history. Modern Persia (not 1930's pro-Hitler molded name of "aryan Iran") would replace Islamist fascist Iran.
who have been targeting Israelis and Jews through their Hizbula and Hamas puppets. In their feeble minds this is sufficient to prove that the Iranian regime had nothing to do with the demise of someone in opposition.
Of course, it was even harder to believe that Israel poiisoned Meshal and then saved him by giving him the antidote. Intelligence services have their own motivations.
... spread the "fact" that Ahmadinejad and Khamenei killed the scientist on behalf of Israel...
they want to make it look like the west and Israel did it. Maybe he was going to talk and the mullahs needed to deflect world opinion to their advantage. He was lower lever operator on their program but his opinion would affect western opinion. The mullahs intentions are out in the open. They killed this poor man and are trying to throw blame which is in their Hadith.
There is nothing unclear about this assassination which is only one of the many murders of supporters of the Iranian opposition that have taken place since the fraudulent election was turned into a coup d'etat by the Revolutionary Guards. The victim signed his own death warrant when he signed a statement of support for Mousavi's campaign in the presidential election. Since the election fraud the Dictatorship has slaughtered many supporters of the opposition. The only thing that makes this murder different from all the others is that in this case the Dictatorship has plumbed new depths of depravity by pointing to the blood on its own hands as a pretext to escalate its threats against Irael.
He was not a nuclear scientist. He was a physicist who specialized in String Theory. He was an open supporter of the current opposition. Many in Iran blame the regime's own 'death squads" for assassinating him.
Iran isn't going to do anything to Israel directly they will order the terrorist groups of Hizbollah & Hamas who they finance and arm to do the job. They will attack us & we will attack them and the arabs are going to be the ones paying the price for Irans revenge. I wonder what the arabs would say if we asked them are you willing to suffer so Iran can have revenge?
