The Israel Defense Forces and the Israel Police evacuated dozens of Palestinian and left-wing activists who staged a demonstration at an illegal outpost near Kiryat Arba on Friday.

The activists had arrived in the area with the intention of erecting their own outpost near the illegal outpost named Hilltop 26. Some news agencies reported that the activists had assembled a makeshift structure and waved Palestinian flags.

IDF troops arrived at the scene and asked the demonstrators to leave, declaring the area a closed military zone. However, the activists said, the settlers of Hilltop 26 were not evacuated under the army's order.

Activist Mairav Zonszein told Haaretz that the settlers, among them prominent extreme rightist Baruch Marzel, had assaulted the demonstrators and one of them was hit in the head and fell to the ground. The victim is planning to file a complaint, Zonszein said.

In this video, filmed by Jesse Hochheiser, Marzel is seen provoking both demonstrators and IDF soldiers:

Zonszein added that 8 Israelis were arrested under the closed military zone order, which she stressed had been enforced only on Israeli and Palestinian activists and not on settlers.

She said that the demonstrators had expected the authorities to evacuate them, and had willingly begun to depart when asked by soldiers, but were pushed anyway.

Meanwhile Friday, Palestinians and left wing activists held a weekly demonstration in the West Bank town of Na'alin, protesting the West Bank separation fence which bisects many towns and villages in the area, cutting residents off from each other and from their fields.

The finger of one of the demonstrators was severed as authorities employed tear gas grenades to disperse the crowd.
