Hamas political leader Khaled Meshal has confirmed that the Islamist group will send a delegation to Cairo to take part in reconciliation negotiations with the rival Fatah movement.

In an interview with Palestine Note, Meshal responded to the "start-and-stop, blurred comments" regarding Hamas' plans for negotiations.

Hamas has over recent weeks declared refusal to take part in talks with Fatah, after Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas supported withdrawing a proposal to condemn Goldstone Commission's report on Israel's war in the Gaza Strip.

Abbas has since retracted his withdrawal, and the report accusing Israel and Hamas of war crimes was endorsed by the United Nations Human Rights Council.

The interview was conducted by the Palestine Note website/

Let us all understand folks what has happened. Israel, and it's faithful servant Obama, have managed to finish off Fatah. It has been totally discredited. Abbas, who only managed to retain any influence because of the promise of the last 11 months that Obama might prevail over Israel has been destroyed. Hamas delivered the final blow last week. Now comes the time to negotiate with the more militant members of Fatah about their minority status in the upcoming coalition in the West Bank. I wish it were not true, but Israel could not stand making peace with Abbas, and now it has succeeded in destroying him. Israel gave Hamas a foothold in the early 1980s, now it has given it the West Bank as well as Gaza.
