UNESCO announces plan to battle Holocaust denial, raise awareness

Unanimously approved program will enable organization to prepare Holocaust remembrance instructional curriculums for international use.

By Barak Ravid Tags: Holocaust

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced on Tuesday it would launch a program to promote awareness of the Holocaust by means of battling every form of Holocaust denial and formulating educational curriculums.

Over recent months, extensive political efforts have been made to recruit international support for the program, initiated by Israel. With the aid of the U.S., Russia, Australia and Canada, Israel successfully garnered the support of an additional 70 countries for the program.

UNESCO unanimously adopted the initiative, despite initial concerns that Arab nations would attempt to torpedo the move.

Under the guidelines of the new program, UNESCO will now be able to prepare educational and instructional curriculums on Holocaust remembrance, and promote the incorporation of such studies in core curriculums, conferences and research worldwide. These activities will be carried out in tandem with the Holocaust remembrance programs currently being developed at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

In addition, a permanent exhibit on the Holocaust is set to open at the UN headquarters in New York, to be displayed along the path taken by tourists and visitors on guided tours of the building. The exhibit, a result of extensive efforts made by Israel's Foreign Ministry, aims to balance out the permanent exhibit on Palestinian refugees, also displayed on site.

It would now seem that many international institutions are bought-and-sold in the interest of zionist thought. Does it matter that the against the honest universal distaste against so-called Israel. How much have the zionists paid UNESCO to operate on their behalf? How stupid do the zionists think that we observers are? Is the zionist murder of Palestinian now something that UNESCO supports? How stupid do you zionists think that the rest of humanity is?

Dear Danny I had an great uncle who was in butcher in Prague when the Germans invaded. He nad his family hid Jews and were subsequently taking off by the Nazis and never heard from again. I also have Irish ancestors that were forced to flee their British occupiers in the 19th century or die in Ireland. Please don't pontificate about another's family, it only demonstrates your total ignorance and complete biasness.

Maybe all those groups who experienced a holocaust should also advocate education of it. I guess its easy to call the holocaust "ancient history" when you don't have any family that actually survived it, huh?

They surely cannot be serious! How can any UN body do anything to teach the Holocaust? Have the 57 Muslim nations really kept quiet? Did America threaten to boot the UN out of NYC? Or is the rest of the world finally waking up?

Very interesting, to promote awareness of an event, and if you question them (depending which country you reside in) you will be arrested. How funny, truth need not be inforced by the barrel of a gun. Doing so (as in communist suppression of alternative views) only foments the opposite result.

    Ancient History

Abe Foxman and the ADL claimed that the Armenians seeking a Congressional recognition of their Holocaust were dealing with ancient history. Representative Jane Harmen said regarding this matter, "Condemning horror is important. But moving through the anger and psychic hurt to positive action is true emancipation." The events of WWII are nothing more than a footnote in man's history of inhumanity. The Chinese, Native Americans, Cambodians, Irish, Africans and Armenians have all experienced their own Holocausts. None of these groups demand that the world award them the Guinness Record for the most picke upon people. It's time to move on and quit dealing with ancient history.
