UJC of N. America to donate NIS 11M to help Sderot residents
Funds to support programs for disabled, youth and scholarships for students at Sderot's Sapir College.
By Amiram Barkat and Haaretz CorrespondentThe United Jewish Communities (UJC) of North America announced Wednesday it would donate NIS 11 million to Sderot and other communities near the Gaza Strip.
At a meeting of the UJC administration, the organization's leadership decided the money would be taken from funds raised to help residents of the north recover from the effects of this summer's war in the north.
That fund, set up shortly after the war's end, has raised $350 million to date.
Nahman Shai, vice president and chairman of the UJC in Israel, said "the North American Jewish community is concerned for the residents of Sderot and other residents of the area, and is working quickly and extensively to assist them."
The aid - which will be distributed via the Jewish Agency and the Israel operation of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee - is intended, among other things, to fund programs for the disabled, elderly and youth.
The organization will also donate fund totaling NIS 3 million to students at Sapir College in Sderot.
In the past year, the UJC has contributed NIS 10 million to programs helping victims of trauma.

look how much America compassionate? Americans are contributing sums to Sderot jews who are ovrwhelmed by "inhumane" palestinians, at the time when these same jews are presenting flowers and roses to these unkind 'NEIGHBORS' THAT IS WHY I LOVE AMERICA?
I am following some of the money trail latley, and can tel you that Alah-mulahs in Israel get a lion share of it. How do you like this one?
Whatever fraction of the money they collect that ends up in the hands of the needy, after every manager and every official of the UJC in the US and in Israel have pocketed his share is a drop in the ocean. I'm yet to see any money being spend to TRULY help Jews in need.
Better check with Rabbi Amir to be sure you won't violate the Law of Return by sending your money ahead of you. I think only money from Orthodox Jews born in Jerusalem to a Jewish Mother + Jewish Father, who own a registered Jewish puppy dog, and 2.3 other Jewish children can donate.
I pray those that speak out against Jews in other countries, conversion. marriages read this . wonder who is donating the noney. Could it be Reformed Conserbative OthodoxJews . Now let those that claim they speak for G-d deny we are all Jews
