Dennis Ross and Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden and David Petraeus have the job of planning US strategy with Iran. We have a pretty good coordinator on Afghanistan and Pakistan involved, too. The idea is to exit the region long term, not stay forever. We don't want to be the Empire. We no longer have the rule-the-world delusions of the Bush-Cheney years.

Saying NO to failed strategies is not isolationism. The US was attacked from Afghanistan. So we are fighting a war there. Preemptive defensive war is a bogus strategy. It kills a lot of people and solves nothing. It is a superb way to destroy one's own country through diminution of one's own military and through bankruptcy, especially if the creditors and allies no longer want to foot the costs.

Everybody speaks about sanctions. How fare... Its never to late for discussions. The Iran is a multiethnic country with a big opposition. This could be a bomb inside the country for the governement of the Iran if they are in a war.

Iran does not attack other countries. Iran lets its aides of Hamas and Hizbullah do the dirty job.

Israel has had nuclear weapons for around 50 years and the technology came from France by the way and not the US - but don't let facts get in your way. Even though Israel has been involved in three wars and the '73 surprise attack severely threatened it, Israel has never once threatened anyone with a nuclear attack. Compare this with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's statements. His country hasn't even got the bomb yet and he's not only threatened to wipe Israel off the map but has threatened many others too, including the Great Satan. You almost certainly don't know that almost every Sunni country in the middle east has offered to cooperate with Israel if and when it knocks out Iran's nuclear facilities because they see Iran and not Israel as a threat. I do not like Iranian government and I support the struggle for democracy in Iran (and in Israel) but the Facts are: 1) Iran never attacked any country or occupied lands of its neighbors. Israel did so to fourn neighboring countries. 2) Iran does not say it wants to destroy a country. This is a deliberate lie. The mistranslation of the statement by Ahmedinujad and putting woprds in his mouth notwithstanding, all he said is that quoting the Ayatollah, taht the Zionist regime will be removed (a regime is not a country it is a political system as anyone knows). 3) Israel already destroyed a country: Palestine. There is precedent for irrational behavior (Lebanon, Gaza etc.) and so weapons in tehir hands are far more dangerous. 4) Iran complies with IAEA rules and signed teh nuclear nonproliferation treaty. Israel has not. If Israel is truly peaceful and intends only defensive measures, why not sign the treaty?

So you infer that nuclear weapons in the hands of a dictator that: 1. Brutally represses it's own people, shooting those who protest and hanging those that it catches. 2. Nuclear arms race in the Middle East! Caused by Iran! No Mr Obama. Israel set the possibility and perhaps the necessity for this race. It has already begun when France, South Africa, the UK with the support of the US facilitated Israel's nuclear arsenal and capacity. Israel refuses to comply with International constraints regarding Nuclear power. Iran has at least done this and has had inspectors at their sites. Remember the US ignored those same realities in Iraq where there were also NO nuclear weapons. The aggressive behaviour of Israel to eliminate the Palestinians from their land and to air-brush them from scene is the aggression that the US MUST address. .... Sadly the US is not up to that.

The truth is the U.S. will become a 3rd world country if Iran trades it's oil in euros instead of dollars. Saddam did it for years and look at America's economy. The nuclear arms race was started by Israel and it was won by Israel. Iran is a sure bet for second place. The other finishers are yet to be determined. Anybody criticizing Irans nuclear program should also express an opinion on Israels nuclear program. If this is not done, then there opinions are incomplete and worthless.
