U.S. imposes sanctions on Gaza institutions over Hamas links

Ban to prohibit Americans from dealing with Strip bank, TV station and freeze their U.S. assets.

The U.S. Treasury said on Thursday it imposed sanctions against two firms in Gaza -- Islamic National Bank and Al-Aqsa Television -- for their ties to the ruling Hamas movement.

The Treasury said the sanctions prohibit Americans from transactions with the designated entities and seek to freeze any assets they may have under U.S. jurisdiction.

The Treasury previously blacklisted Hamas, which rules Gaza, as a "specially designated global terrorist" organization.

It said the sanctions were imposed against Islamic National Bank, opened by Hamas in April 2009, for providing financial services to Hamas members and employees, including members of its military wing. The Treasury said the bank lacks a legal license from the Palestinian Monetary Authority and operates outside the legitimate financial system.

The Treasury said Al-Aqsa Television station is financed and controlled by Hamas and serves as a primary Hamas media outlet that airs programs "designed to recruit children to become Hamas armed fighters and suicide bombers upon reaching adulthood."

The Am. Oil Lobby is on the Palistinian side because the industry wants to be 'in' and loved by the Arabs so they can gain concessions for drilling, field management and shipping. Is there any more powerful lobby than oil?

....all of a sudden have some lobbyists now in the White House and within the U.S. military. That wouldn't be too bad either.... ....never thought in my wildest dreams that I might see that day! Okay, let's not get carried away now...:)

....namely the question "what leads to violence ??" which is regularly getting suppressed, at least when it comes to the MSM on the other side of the Atlantic. But at least there seems to be some hope now when it comes to the Obama administration, and even the U.S. army seems to start reflecting on that. That's definitely a good thing.... P.S. A liberal revolution around the globe would be just fine with me...:)

Sanctions and boycotts are needed on a cruel & racist repressive israel that cowardly drops bombs on UN buildings, schools, playhouses & hospitals. Israel defies all international calls on halt of settlements & rejects the calls for a Palestinian state from the hand that feeds it. Israel is cruel & racist repressive regime that rejects International calls for standing trial on war crimes and rejects to sign the NPT. It will be interesting to see how long Israel can last without stupid America?s support - before it yields and begins to act like a civilized nation

"Why only U.S.sanctions against banks dealing with Palestinian extremists, and no punishment of those dealing with Israeli extremists...???" Simpe. Palestinians do not have a powerful lobby to protect them as zionists do. Only our Father in Heaven can protect Poor Palestinians!

i agree dino, but we all know sanctions are reserved only for the poor and those who fight for freedom of the capitalist gov'ts called zionists. sanctions only make the victims fight harder, I know that, but those who r brainwahsed only see teh violence that MSM shows and not explain why, or how it came to be. eventually the revolution in the west will happen, I just hope it happens while i'm still able to help fight in. I have even told my family that when it happens they better be out there fighting with the revolutionaries.
