U.S. immigrant gets expulsion order for supporting 'Jewish terrorist'

The 22-year-old was vocal in supporting Yaakov Teitel's alleged murder of a Palestinian.

A young American immigrant was recently expelled from the West Bank for allegedly supporting "Jewish terrorist" Yaakov Teitel.

Teitel was charged in November with two murders, three attempted murders and other acts of violence. The indictment also lists Teitel's efforts for more than a decade to harm Arabs, gays and lesbians, leftists, police officers and messianic Jews.

A week and a half ago, Israel Defense Forces Major General Avi Mizrahi issued an expulsion decree for a 22-year-old who immigrated to Israel from the U.S. four months ago.

The immigrant had recently become more religious and was studying in Jerusalem at the Machon Meir Yeshiva, an intensive Jewish studies institute.

Testimony surrounding the expulsion order revealed that he spent much time in the West bank settlement of Kfar Tapuah, where he was often heard speaking in support of the murder and anti-Palestinian activities mentioned in Teitel's indictment.

The Israel Defense Forces released a statement regarding the decree: "The [expulsion] decree was issued because of intelligence information suggesting that he was a danger to public peace and security in the area."

The American was arrested after breaking the expulsion ban but was subsequently released by a Jerusalem court.

Administrative detention is what is needed in this case. That's the form of detention used here to get around legal "niceties" such as habeas corpus.

What about the administrative detention that so many Palestinians are held under, without ever getting to trial? Surely those same laws could be used to indefinitely detain Israelis who have also not yet committed crimes.

Teitel and his follower look like Zionism's future. The idea that a person can 'enforce' their religion on outsiders is unique (in Judaism) to Zionists (I think). Israelis should wonder why such people feel such comfort in expressing their violence in Israel. This article should be linked to the one about "psychoanalyzing Israel".

While the government can arrest and question this young man, there is little that can be done legally to keep him in jail or in custody. The immigrant is probably already an Israeli citizen if he came under the Law of Return. What can be done is to restrict his movement within Israel and the occupied territories at the discretion of security authorities. While I have little or no sympathy for his ilk, legally the young man did not commit a crime. He’s just a lose cannon that can’t muster the wickedness to go about doing the actions he brags in support about. The authorities should force him to put some hours into community service at the Pride Center at Gan Meir. Maybe he’ll learn something.
