U.S. court: Would-be Israel spy to remain in jail before trial

Judge declares Stewart Nozette too much of a flight risk to release him while he awaits trial.

A judge on Thursday ordered a U.S. space exploration scientist suspected of passing classified information to an FBI agent posing as an Israeli intelligence officer to stay behind bars.

Magistrate Judge Deborah Robinson decided there was too much of a flight risk for Stewart Nozette, 52, to be free while he awaits trial.

Nozette pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted espionage. He is accused of seeking $2 million for selling secrets to an undercover FBI agent posing as an Israeli intelligence officer. The Justice Department could seek the death penalty.

At the hearing, prosecutor Anthony Asuncion said Nozette told the agent he had passed classified information to Israel in the past. Nozette is not charged with doing so.

Nozette, who is credited with helping discover evidence of water on the moon, was arrested by federal authorities nearly two weeks ago.

The complaint against him does not allege that the Israeli government or anyone acting on its behalf violated U.S. law.

Granting that he was quite willing and eager to sell sensitive data, and he has had access to very much of it, I can't see where the problem is getting him off the streets before he made the sale. How is his being Jewish relevant?

According to our FBI, Israel has the second largest spying organization here in america.China is number one. To prove anti semitism you have to prove our FBI is targeting jewish scientist exclusively. No such charge has ever come out. We have gone after chinese ameicans and russian americans for spying for america.Think some in Israel and some in the jewish community here in america are on the edge of paranoia.

AntiSemites are behind the harassment and entrapment of this scientist. It is time they be exposed to the world. What do they gain in harassing and persecuting Jewish Scientists? Nothing! They do it because of AntiSemitism.
