Suspects detained 10 days ago for allegedly assaulting youth passing by them in Jerusalem's Old City.

The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court on Monday charged two Border Police officers with grievously attacking an Arab youth passing by them near the Old City of Jerusalem.

The officers, Ma'or Melianker and Yosef Dahan, were detained 10 days ago and have been under house arrest since.

Melianker has also been charged in two other incidents of assault, causing grievous bodily harm, obstructing legal proceedings, providing false testimony.

Discussion of Israeli forces suspected of attacking Arabs has centered around the Border Police of late, following the release of a damning video clip on YouTube in which officers filmed themselves verbally and physically abusing Palestinians.

Deputy State Prosecutor Shai Nitzan last month rejected an appeal against the decision not to investigate Border Police officers who documented themselves abusing Palestinians.

"rejected an appeal AGAINST the decision NOT to investigate" nope...i don't think i am! either it's a writing snafu... or these other guys aren't even being investigated...even after a decision NOT to to do was appealed... and despite their own film clip! abusing and humiliating palestinians...all in good fun; right guys?! you read about incidents like these, the few that make the news(fewer still that are punished), and how every instance of palestinian of violence towards israelis is made to be an act of "terrorism", each making the headlines as such, and you can start to realize just how well israel and its supporters have managed paint a picture of victim and villain that doesn't quite match reality.

Because they violated rules of engagement, when caught they can be indicted when its wild speculation mediia/etc its hard to punish offenders.

Like I said the IDF and security forces has to be very careful on who they deploy where. They should observe kids in high school before letting them into the army.

These two were actually charged with their crimes...that is new and very welcome... This is not Ma'or Melianker's first offence. He should never be allowed near Palestinians again.

Israel has many laws which openly discriminate against non-Jews. You can?t call Israel a democracy if it has one law for one person and a different law for his/her neighbor. Check out some of your laws which discriminate in favor of Jewish people and remember that if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck - it?s a DUCK! http://www.divestmentproject.org/apartheid_laws.shtml
