Turkish security forces detained 32 suspected members of the militant group Al-Qaida believed to have been planning attacks on Israeli, U.S. and NATO targets, state-run news agency Anatolian reported on Thursday.

The suspects were detained in simultaneous raids across eight provinces, it said, quoting security officials as saying some were believed to have been trained in Al-Qaida camps in Afghanistan.

Security officials found documents linking the suspects to the outlawed group during the raids.

"Teams from the Istanbul Anti-Terror Squad have launched an operation against Al-Qaida members found to be planning operations against U.S. and Israeli representative offices and NATO installations," Anatolian reported.

Separately, Anatolian said six people were facing charges over their involvement in Al-Qaida suicide bombings that killed some 60 people at two synagogues, an HSBC bank branch and the British consulate in Istanbul in 2003.

Seven militants, including a Syrian Al-Qaida member, were previously sentenced to life in prison for their role in the 2003 bombings.

We should let Al Qaida attack the West and Israel. Only if they are going to attack us we should arrest them.

Thank you so much. My concern is if another nation id to manuever and increase friction between nations for their own pockets by funding Al Queda squads and Taliban. By using terrorist to kill their prey and the other country rides along innocent with no strings attached. I am concerned by a certain country we need to watch with caution and friendship. and does want zion to give up its illegal brutal occupation it is in no way involed in terror against the zionist state..in fact just the opposite is true....the US and Isreal support the kurds who support al Qeada who attack Turkey, Iran, Israel, US....in fact it has become a sore point of contention that the support of the kurds by isreal does support terror in Turkey (and everyone else they can hit from there)

Although Turkey has been a victim of Islamic terrorism before and will be again the Islamic government of Turkey is still supporting terrorism against Israel. We will see if the Turks have the sense to elect someone else next time they get a chance.

Yeah right! Maybe Israeli intelligence picked up on it first and then the Turks said "Oh sh*t, we better do something to make us look good. I would not trust the Turks, period.

The timing is all too opportune! First Turkey attacks Israel going to the extreme of financing a TV show to demonize the IDF. Then, miraculously, they capture "al Qaeda suspects threatening Israel?" Seems more likely that once again, the Turks engaged in a cross border attack on the Kurdish civilians of Iraq killing hundreds of innocent civilians and taking their elders into captivity. The Turks are trying to legitimize their move to make the Kurd population the Armenians of the 21st century!
