Top policeman killed in roadside accident north of Tel Aviv
Police say the driver involved in the accident appears to have been under influence of alcohol.
Police Superintendent Jack Lugasi, 47, was killed on Friday after being hit by a truck after stopping by the side of the road to help his son, whose car had broken down, near Morasha junction.
Police say the driver of the truck, 45, appears to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The son's vehicle was in need of a spare tire, and Lugasi drove out to assist him. As they were changing the wheel, a Mitzubishi truck emerged from behind a curve and hit both cars.
Lugasi was critically injured, dying shortly before medical teams arrived.Police detained the truck driver at the scene.
In another accident, an IDF soldier and a 25-year-old woman were badly injured as their car swerved off the road and hit a palm tree at the entrance to Netanya.
