In another accident, five people were injured - one critically and two seriously - as two cars were involved in a head-on collision near Carmiel.
Another two-car accident near Kisra junction on Highway 854 left a man in his thirties critically injured. Eleven others, among them children, were hurt, seven of them seriously. All the victims are believed to be residents of the nearby village of Kfar Kisra.
Magen David Adom rescue services arrived at the scene and extricated the injured that were trapped in the wreckage of the vehicles. A helicopter airlifted the critically injured man to Rambam Hospital in Haifa. The other injured were rushed to the hospital in Nahariya.
The section of the highway in which the accident took place is notorious for the many accidents that have occurred there in the past. The road is believed especially dangerous at night because it meanders and is unlit.
