Technion rebukes student who refused to stand for Israeli anthem
Graduate studies dean tell far-left activist that he was in violation of 'clear social codes.'
The dean of graduate studies at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology - has rebuked a doctoral student for remaining seated during the playing of "Hatikva," the Israeli national anthem, at a graduation ceremony for Ph.D. students last week.
Technion dean Moshe Shpitalni sent a letter of reprimand to the student, Ayal Rosenberg, a far-left activist.
Shpitalni said he was not interested in Rosenberg's personal views, "But there are clear social codes as to how to act in such settings."
He instructed Rosenberg not to come to an upcoming graduation ceremony for master's degree students. Rosenberg declined to respond.
