The Secondary School Teachers Association (SSTA) announced Monday that it would hold a one-hour-long strike Tuesday morning to protest an attack on a high school principal by a student's parent.
The strike means that all high school and junior high school classes will begin at 9:00 A.M.
The principal of a religious high school in Kiryat Gat was attacked Monday by the father of a student sent home for her "immodest" dress.
The girl's father came to the school and confronted the principal, grabbing her forcibly and ramming her head into a wall. The principal fled to the teachers' room, where she called the police.
The assailant was arrested a short time later, and the principle was taken to Barzilai Hospital where she was treated for bruises and shock.
"Violent incidents targeting teachers are becoming increasingly frequent, and there is no real response on the part of Education Ministry," said SSTT Chairman Ran Erez. "[The ministry] does it can to please the students and their parents, abandoning the teachers."
