Israeli swimmer Gal Nevo qualified Wednesday afternoon for the semifinals of the men's 200-meter individual medley.

Nevo finished heat number five in fifth place with a time of 1:59.56 minutes, good enough for 12th place overall.

The semifinals in Nevo's event are scheduled to commence Wednesday at 10:41P.M. Israel time.

Earlier Wedsnesday, Israeli swimmer Yakov Toumarkin advanced to the semifinals of the men's individual's 200-meter individual backstroke.

He finished his heat in third with a time of 1:57.33 minutes, setting an Israeli record by two-hundredths of a second, which placed him eighth among all competitors.

The previous Israeli record was 1:57:35. 

Tomarkin was ranked 8th place overall. American swimmer Rayn Lochte finished first in a time of 1:56.36 minutes.
