Snow falls in Jerusalem, north as stormy weather hits the country

Snow reported in capital, Golan Heights, Mount Meron; heavy rains lead to concerns of flooding.

By Eli Ashkenazi

Snow fell Thursday morning in Jerusalem, the northern and central Golan Heights, Mount Meron, and Mount Hermon, as stormy weather hit throughout the country Thursday.

Schools are operating on regular schedules in Jerusalem, although schools were closed in the northern Golan Heights.

The snow also blocked the access road from Kibbutz Merom Golan northward.

The harsh weather also reportedly caused power failures in the southern Galilee and raised fears of flooding.

The Hermon ski resort remained closed Tuesday to visitors and skiers, although it is expected to be open over the weekend. The site's management said roughly 25 centimeters of snow had accumulated on the slopes overnight Thursday.

Roughly 20 millimeters of rain has fallen in the northern Galilee since Thursday morning, and Kinneret water levels rose roughly two centimeters - bringing them to within 2.58 centimeters of the satisfactory level.

The rain is expected to gradually weaken Thursday night, with partly cloudy to cloudy weather and scattered rainfall in the north anticipated for Friday. Saturday's weather is expected to be similar, with the rain tapering off during the day. Sunday will be partly cloudy and slightly warmer.

    Metaphor of snow

So Tamir believes in miracles and others think her a fool. Tamir, while I appreciate your metaphor, snow blankets Canada and much of North America every year and it has little to do with piety. It's an annual hemispheric thing. Called winter. God, Allah, Jesus, Vishnu and the gang are getting drunk by the fire, laughing at all of us in their cabin in the woods. With the ongoing stupidity and ignorance on both sides of "the conflict" I certainly need more convincing of the existence of miracles. Like the miracle of peace between real fools who drive through life seeing no further than their headlights. Or ski-tips. Having seen my fair share of snow, nothing is more cleansing than freshly fallen snow. The air is clean, the silence is beautiful. Silence. Maybe the tubthumpers on both sides can learn from it. Or maybe they'll continue with the ongoing lunacy. By the way, nothing shows up the brilliant colour of blood like snow.

No green lands there. The Negev still an empty place and its not suitable for living. Areas around dead sea, Eilat and the Jordan border are also desert. Flying too much Israeli crafts and airforce causing too much pollutions in the country. Inspite of all, the snow falls.

Tamir, How can you be so ignorant. If today its snowing it is because of Israel has changed the eco system from desert to green land. The result is obviouse. In the last 60 years every year Israel is taking much more raining from the last year. Just compare the Arab countries with Israel and you'll find what I mean. My prediction is next year we'll attract much more rain than this year. Aby

Jerusalem got a few flakes. Efrat is snowed in. So, by your explanation, there must be a HUGE mosque in Efrat - and Western Canada MUST be far more holy to the muslims that Mecca?

I have been worrying about global warming and predictions that in 60 years it will be too hot to live in Africa, resulting in drought, loss of life, starvation. Predictions say Israel may be too hot to live by then in; and lo and behold, it is snowing in Israel. How did that happen? I love you all truly.

You wonder: "Mosques and churches make snow but stop rain? Fascinating". Well Yacov, he (Tamir from London) already explained it for all of us : it's a miracle. From now on, I think I'll watch Tamir's political opinions regarding the ME with more interest.

I know its a kinda strange for you, and you may find my post in #3 ironic. Holyland sights in Palestine and Jerusalem is not like the one in Arabian peninsula, beside I thought the snow doesn't fall in the Sahara.

I find it incredible that the roads are closed here, schools are letting out early, snow has accumulated and for some reason we don't warrant a notice in the press. Gush Etzion is part of the national consensus why don't we start acting like it.

#3 Tamir: Arctic snow because of mosques & churches
    • Yacov
    • 15.03.07
    • 14:25

So it snows in the Arctic because of the thousands of mosques and churches at the North Pole? I already knew that rain seldom falls in the Sahara and Arabian peninsula deserts because of all the mosques there. How does that work? Mosques and churches make snow but stop rain? Fascinating.

Jewish Mossad trick to freeze out the Arab Muslims
    • Yacov
    • 15.03.07
    • 14:21

Mossad weather-terrorist Jews are up to their old tricks, this time causing a huge snow storm in Jerusalem and the north to freeze out Arab Muslims. Mossad's Jews will next provide free skis so the Arabs can ski to Syria. Of course, the skis will be rigged to work only one-way east so the Arabs can't ski west back into Israel when the weather warms up.
