Six Palestinians were killed Friday night in a traffic accident with an Israel Defense Forces jeep at the entrance to the Ofra settlement near Ramallah, the army said.

A woman and her four children who were killed were traveling in a Palestinian car in the West Bank, along with another passenger, who was seriously injured and transferred to a Ramallah hospital where he died shortly after admission.

According to Israel Radio, the Palestinian vehicle suddenly swerved off course and crashed head on into the IDF car.

Initial investigation indicates that a tire on the Palestinian car - a Mitsubishi - exploded, which caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

The IDF soldiers, who were driving an armed jeep, were slightly injured and transferred to Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem.
