Noam Shalit, father of abducted Israel Defense Forces soldier Gilad Shalit, blasted Hamas on Thursday for its "bogus resistance," and for holding Palestinians hostage in Gaza.

Speaking at a solidarity event organized by students of Blich High School in Ramat Gan, Shalit urged the incumbent government to act swiftly for Gilad's release before its term in office comes to an end.

Addressing Hamas, Shalit lashed out: "Stop holding us hostage for bygone symbols that, at best, belong to yesterday's wars, to yesterday's world, which has since changed beyond recognition."

Shalit also criticized the Israeli leadership for its failure to secure his son's release. "Gilad has been 'serving his sentence' in the Hamas prison for three years now without Israel and its leaders being able to fulfill there moral duty to IDf soldiers sent on a mission by the government," he said.
