Saudis urges firm stance on Israel after Ayalon handshake
Saudi Arabia urges international community to take firm stance against Israel's treatment of the Palestinians.
By The Associated Press Tags: Saudi Arabia Middle East peace Israel newsSaudi Arabia on Monday urged a firm stance by the international community regarding what it called threats by Israel against Lebanon, Syria and the Palestinians.
"[The cabinet] appeals to the international community on the need for a rigorous position about these [Israeli threats] and to step up efforts to end the continuous inhumane Israeli practices against the Palestinian people," the cabinet said after its weekly meeting chaired by King Abdullah.
Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, responding to Syria's accusation Israel was pushing for a war, said earlier this month that Damascus would be defeated and President Bashar al-Assad would lose power in any future conflict.
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak earlier said that "the absence of an agreement with Syria could lead to armed conflict that could develop into all-out war".
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reassured Syria that Israel sought peace after Lieberman's remarks.
The statement followed comments by Saudi Prince Turki al-Faisal in which he sought to downplay the significance of his handshake with Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon at a conference in Munich on Saturday.
Prince Turki, an ex-head of Saudi intelligence touted by Western diplomats to be the kingdom's next foreign minister, said the handshake did not mean that the kingdom recognised Israel, Saudi newspapers reported on Monday.

"Pals are not as good at catching law breakers?"
It's Ayalon who sought to score political points with this hand shake. The Saudi had nothing to do with it and should share none of the blame.
Booze prostitutes you name it,anything goes.
This Ayalon reminds me of some of the black lunch-counter sitters of the Civil Rights movement in the 60S. Confront the racist Saudis and see how long they can continue embarrassing themselves.
70% of criminals are between 16 and 19 yo. Arabs should pay attention ....
King Feisal was assassinated some 35 years ago. King Abdullah is now king and has been for almost ten years.
"For your information, Israel holds prisoners 12,700 Palestinian in prison." [Dirtson] And Palestinians hold one Israeli. So ... What do these numbers suggest? That Pals are not as good at catching law breakers? That Pals are 12,700 times as likely to break laws as Israelis? Los Angeles has more than 12,700 people in jail. Should we let them all go?
FYI, in most of the world anyone 16-19 is considered a young adult. You know...those people who comprise most of the world's violent street gangs.
Reread Durson. She was not saying Israelis are excited by the prospect of friendship with Arabs. Rather they were diplomatically playing with the Arabs. Big difference. By the way, I do not agree, the Saudis shook hands for a very specific reason...they are just as concerned with Iran as Israel is. Try getting beyond the surface of what you read.
For your information, Israel holds prisoners 12,700 Palestinian in prison. Over 70% are children between the ages of 16 and 19. The release of all Palestinian children held in Israeli prisons should be a precondition for any diplomatic handshake.
You are an enabler. You easily condone and forgive improper conduct. What is your stance on honor killings--is the woman's fault? What is your stance on rockets thrown from Gaza to onto civilian populations---is that always the fault of the Jews? The problem with enablers is that they help perpetuate the improper conduct. The improper conduct here results in continued human suffering on all sides. Become part of the solution, don't enable improper behavior just because Jews are the victims. You are predictable. Get help.
Durson nailed it on the nose. Israelis are so very exited anytime there is a glimmer of hope or friendship with an Arab nation. Arab Nations on the other hand......well lets just say Prince Turkey wont be using his right hand any more, and most likely spend some recovery time in deep dark seclusion.

Israel is always eager to play Arab diplomats and officials for fools. Every meeting is fodder for Israels spin and propaganda machine. The Arabs know this and normally don't make such a botch. You can bet that this won't happen again anytime soon.
the Saudis think it's the top of everybody's dreams just to touch their clam limbs. Screw them and their handshakes
