Russia police nab Israeli wanted by Interpol for training militants
In 1991, Columbian court sentenced 61-year-old Yair Gal Klein in absentia to 10 years in prison.
By ReutersMOSCOW - Russian police detained an Israeli man wanted by Interpol for training militants when he arrived at Moscow's Domodedovo airport, Russia's agency for fighting organized crime and terrorism reported Tuesday.
Yair Gal Klein, 61, had been sentenced in absentia to 10 years in jail by a Colombian court in 1991 for training militants for drug cartels in the late 1980s, the agency's spokesman said, citing intelligence reports.
Interpol had tipped off Russia's Interior Ministry that Klein could attempt to travel to Moscow in August. He was detained when he arrived at the airport on Monday.
"To get through passport controls in many countries without any difficulties, he changed the date of birth, his surname and the passport number," the spokesman said.
His passport only contained the name Gal Klein when he was detained in the Moscow airport. Klein will be extradited to Israel which will then transfer him to Colombia, he said.

Not that I condone IDF actions in Lebanon, which were entirely counter-productive, but there is a fundamental difference between the IDF's actions and those of Hizbollah. The IDF is a national army which answers to a sovereign government (whether one agrees with that government's policies or not). Hizbollah is (among other things) an armed militia which does not have any legal authority to represent Lebanon. Hizbollah dragged Lebanon into this conflict, but you will note that the Lebanese army did not follow!
If Klein had been in the Balkans it would have been as an arms dealer. Serb militias didn't need any foreign advice on how to massacre civilians and never showed any real interest in learning advanced infantry skills. There were plenty of foreigners floating around Ex Yugoslavia on all sides, especially during the early days of the civil wars. Bosnia was a short journey from the rest of Europe and easy to travel to but there was no real money to be made as a mercenary or instructor so most of the guys who went were young adventurers or violent riff raff. If the Serbs wanted foreign advice they tended to look towards Russia. Klein is a very naughty individual who has been around the world but I doubt if he trained Serb militias. The only group that might have been able to afford his services was Arkan's Tigers and if he had worked with them it would not have been kept a secret for long. Ex Yugoslavia was full of foreign intelligence operatives and Klein would have been noticed.
He is a bright light , and Klein in Line of all those leaders like Milosevitch , that is clearly dedicated themselves in serving proper causes. We call on Moscow to grant a medal of honor and red-star in service of great causes .
Ian, sure...go after Nasrallah who was conducting a military operation against a foreign occupier but lets also have Interpol go after the IDF generals who allowed the cluster bombing of much of the countryside which is still killing and maiming civilians and the IDF forces who kill innocent schoolgirls who get too close to the damnable wall in the West Bank. Your conviction that you know what was going on better then the parties involved in the war is pretty appealing. However since you were also better informed than Russians about Chechen war, better than Israelis on conflict with Palestinians, better than Americans on Iraq and September the 11 th I do not think your claims can be considered as serious.

Do you actually believe that the Serb or any other Balkan military needs training from Mr. Klein. By the way, in case you hadn't figured it out, the muslims in the Balkans were very much to blame for the violence, as they were in Kosovo as well.

Muslims didn't commit the crimes (massacres, rapes thousands of Bosnian women) in the scale comitted by the Bosnian Serb. Milosevic supplied them with tanks and heavy weaponries and a MASTER PLAN to wipe all muslims out from Balkan forever. Well, like Hitler, they failed. They learned shiitee from history.

How the war started: with wedding. There was a serbian wedding in Bosnia. Grom put the serbian flag on the top of ortodox church. Muslim killed the grom. Result was a war and 1/4 million killed, hundreds of thousands crippled, resettled, injured...... Muslim who killed the Serb was leader of one of the greatest mafia gangs in Bosnia. He was killed 2 months ago from a guy from competetive also Muslim mafia gang. Conclusion? I am not smart enough.

As a person from Balkan I can explain to you how the war looked like: foreign mercenaries trained in Bosnian war soldiers/rebels/mercenaries/war criminals/freedom fighters/ from all sides. From Croat, Serb and Muslim side.It is true that Serbs comitted Srebrenica, it is also true that Croats comitted ethnical cleansing of Serbs in Croatia and that Muslims expelled all nonMuslims from their teritory. Majority of population on all sides terribly suffered and just some war profiters made enormous fortune in the time of the war. So what is wrong with us humans? This reminds me on Schwarzenneger's (robot)words in T2: You humans have something selfdestructive in yourselves.
