Report: UAE to deport hundreds of Palestinians by month's end

Hamas wants Arab League to intervene; dozens of Lebanese also face expulsion, says Arab daily.

By Haaretz Service Tags: Israel news Gaza Palestinians

The United Arab Emirates will deport hundreds of Palestinians living within its territory by the end of September, the Al-Quds al-Arabi daily reported on Friday.

The UAE government gave no official reason for its decision, but said that senior state officials have approved the expulsion.

Palestinian lawmaker Aataf Adwan called the decision a campaign against both Palestinians and those of other nationalities born in the UAE.

According to the Lebanese newspaper Al-Aakhbar, the UAE is also planning to deport dozens of Shi'ite Lebanese citizens. Forty-five Lebanese businessmen and clerks have already been expelled, said the report.

None of those deported were given an explanation, according to the report, other than being told the decision was security related.

Some Palestinians have already been deported for giving financial aid to family members in Gaza, said an official in the Strip's ruling Hamas movement. Hamas has asked the Arab League to intervene, fearing other Gulf states may follow suit.

More than 100,000 Palestinians currently live in the United Arab Emirates.

I just wanted to ask if this decision had taken by the Lebanese Government in Lebanon, what would happened in the Cedars country ? What would be Hebollah's reaction?? the one of the Arab World? They would say that the Lebanse Government is pro-Israeli and the Christians of Lebanon are responsible of this descision. The civil war of year 1975 would be repeated, strating from Beirut.

After Israel was created and Jews were forced out of the Muslim countries where they had lived in for almost 2,000 years, Israel opened up to accept them. Unfortunately the same never happened in Muslim countries. I guess that for some reason the world thought that the Arabs would act like the Israelis.

If they had ever had the vision and courage, the Gulf states could have chipped in and built a Palestinian state that would rival Israel in development and industry. Look at UAE, Dubai, Saudi Arabia...Too bad they're all preoccupied with doing away with Israel instead. I guess kicking the Palestinians out is a sign of their strong brotherhood eh.

folks see it that way is because of the Arab States insertion of themselves into the Palestinian/Israeli issue of seperation. After all the Sunnis and Shiites call Pals their "brethern". Even Iran has inserted itself into the politics of the two. So, it isn't untoward to think this may be part of the conversation. I believe, honestly speaking, this is part of the problem on everyone's part. Too much intrusion and not enough support for both sides to move forward.

    What our posters don't grasp
    • RfaelMoshe
    • 04.09.09
    • 21:37

What our posters don't grasp What our posters don't grasp is that many of these "Palestinians" were born in the UAE as may have been their parents. They are NOT "ex-pats" or "migrant labor", rather, they are people that are denied citizenship throughout the Arab world, on the basis of having had a male ancestor that once lived in pre-state Israel. Its part of a systematic design, along with such things as UNRWA, to perpetuate the Palestinians as as "refugee" population from generation to generation, in order to have a hostile population of cannon fodder to use against Israel. The Arab world has always been ready to fight Israel to the very last Palestinian life.

Israel may not wish to have right of return. If the Arab States expel their Palestinian populations, then they will have to be returned to either the occupied territories or to Israel proper. Faiking that the sight of thousands of Palestinians sat on the border will be a PR disaster for Israel within the International Community. A good move by the Arabs.

Funny how Arabs always change the script! Essentially Arabs are occupiers of most of the lands they inhabit. They misplace and murder the ethnic populations and claim the land for their own in the name of Mohammad. Most Arabs who call themselves "Palestinian" are really Egyptians or Syrians which I might add were also not historically Arab but Arab occupied. Arabs come from Arabia which arguably the colony of UAE is part of and should be allowed for all those who call themselves "Arabs" to live as it is their true homeland.

Fellow Arabs and Muslims are considered your "brethren" for obvious reasons: They have been at least 3 wars against Israel with the aim of exterminating the Jews there explicitly in your people's name. With a couple exceptions, no Arab or Muslim country maintains relations with Israel as "solidarity" with your people. Hundreds of Arab/Muslim non-governmental armed groups (i.e. terrorists) attempt to attack Jews all over the world in your name (they even blew up a plane here in Panama, killing my uncle among others in '94). Thousands of Jews are attacked or insulted all over the world by Muslims on an "informal" basis in your name... would you like any more examples?

You are right about the Arab non-thing. It was cooked up to serve some nationalistic purpose in the same way that the Jews cooked up their nationalistic thing to justify taking over the land of others. Several countries were rid of their Jews at or without Israel's instigation but only the Palestinians were made to pay for them all. Israel has been using the set-off gimmick to cancel out the Palestinians' claims to their land. Egypt and Jordan get 3 billions a year for having made peace but the Palestinians got nothing but more misery. Arab-Jews with valid claims should file against the different Arab countries even if Israel has been objecting to it from the start to sustain its expulsion policies since over 60 years.

    • 04.09.09
    • 18:35

Is this fair? The Arabs do not want the Palestinians on their land, although they have large territories, yet they want Israel with its small space to give away large portions to have peace. When Israel has given away land--it has never been enough. Someone is always demanding more. Let the Arab countries give away THEIR land for their poor Palestinian brothers who they say are so mistreated. Its very easy to tell someone else to be charitable, PUT YOUR TURF WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS!

you may be right in that the situation of the pal. migrant workers isn't comparable to the one of native pals in israel. also, my guess is the expulsion from the UAE is linked to a percieved threat coming from iran. but one has to ask, in general, where is arab solidarity? the 100s of thousands pals living in arab countries, many of whom ar born there, should've had their citizenship in those countries long time ago. this would contribute to peace (much more than keeping them in camps) as well as enable these pals to return to help building a pal. state. western countries have done this, while even the richest of the arab states are happy to talk solidarity but leave the deeds to everybody else. if the -67 war hadn't happened the pals would still be in camps & scattered around the globe like they are today. nobody talks about the rich arab states' own version of "apartheid" vis a vis their fellow arabs & muslims. shalom /salaam.

They are despised by Kuwaitis for siding with Saddam when he invaded, despised by Iraqis for being Sunni and siding with Saddam, despised by many Lebanese for their stay in that country, killed by the thousands by the Jordan Legion, used as pawns by Arab countries with their own agendas, and in the so called Saudi peace plan required to leave their host countries where they have been kept in camps and required to return to the state of Palestine if and when that should occur. And they can blame it on their own leadership which has spent all it's time and money (what wasn't stolen by that leadership) on trying to destroy Israel in stead of building anything. Perhaps Abbas and Fayyad have hopefully, finally seen the light.

As a Palestinian (or non-Jewish native if the greater Jerusalem area if you prefer), I've never considered non-Palestinian Arabs as "brethren", so why do you do so, if not to sustain malicious pro-expulsion ideology?

The Palestinians residing in UAE are migrant workers. Israel has many migrant workers, while the Palestinians living in Israel and in the West Bank, are the natives. So Obviously there is no comparison betweeen the the two conditions. As you may know, Israel has deported some Palestinians, in the past under the pretext of security threat, but that also is a different situiation and limited in scope. You guessed it right though that any mass deportation/ transfer of native Palestinians will sure cause an international outcry.
