Report: Suspected Fort Hood shooter prayed at same mosque as 9/11 terrorists

Sunday Telegraph: Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan attended controversial Virginia mosque led by radical imam.

By Haaretz Service Tags: Israel news

Major Nidal Malik Hasan, the U.S. Army psychiatrist accused of shooting dead 13 people and wounding 30 others in Fort Hood, Texas, prayed at the same mosque as two of the September 11 terrorists, according to a report published in the Sunday Telegraph.

Hasan attended the Dar al-Hijrah mosque in Great Falls, Virginia, in 2001, at the same time as the two terrorists, and the FBI may investigate whether Hasan met them, the Telegraph reported.

Anwar al-Awlaki, an American-born Yemeni, who has been accused of supporting attacks on British troops and supporting terrorist organizations, was the mosque's imam at the time.

Al-Awlaki moved to Virginia from the West Coast, and three months later September 11 hijackers Nawaf al-Hamzi and Hani Hanjour began attending his services, the Telegraph reported.

A fellow Muslim officer at Fort Hood told the newspaper that Hasan's eyes "lit up" when he mentioned his deep respect for the controversial imam's teachings.

Hasan's grandfather on Saturday said he found it impossible to believe his grandson had committed the act.

"He is a doctor and loves the U.S.," Ismail Mustafa Hamad said from his home in the Palestinian town of al-Bireh. "America made him what he is."Hasan, who was shot during last Thursday's attack at Fort Hood, was in a coma under guard at a military hospital in San Antonio, Texas, and was said to be in a "stable" condition.

Hasan opened fire using two guns including a semi-automatic weapon, apparently without warning, at Fort Hood base, where troops were getting medical checkups before leaving for foreign deployments.

Hasan was transferred to Fort Hood in April and was to have been deployed to Afghanistan, where the U.S. military is fighting Taliban and al-Qaida.

dept of defense says 3557 muslims serve in the u.s. military

and there are 4677 jews...based on personal religious affiliations volunteered by military members at their enlistment. but 1.7% of the adult population of the u.s. practice judaism...almost three times the number who are muslim, which represent only 0.6% of the adult population in the united states. seems that one group, relative to its numbers in the general population, is noticeably UNDER-represented in u.s. armed forces. interesting; isn't it? that per capita, there are well over twice as many american muslims serving their country than there are american jews.

General George Casey Jr., the Army Chief of Staff is worried about a backlash against Muslim soldiers. ?I?ve asked our Army leaders to be on the lookout for that. ?It would be a shame ? as great a tragedy as this was ? it would be a shame if our diversity became a casualty as well.? - Gen. George Casey ?They?ll (Army CID and FBI) look at all this and they?ll help us form a judgment, but right now it?s way too soon to be drawing any conclusions about what happened or what his motivations were.? - Gen. Casey Why investigate General Casey when so many 'know' he was a Jihadists?

Why the obsession in Israel. . .?

"Why the obsession in Israel over the Fort Hood shootings?" - Chris Linthwaite I have seen no more 'obsession' in the Israeli press than in most of the world's press. "Israel has never satisfactorily explained whether Israel had foreknowledge of the 9/11 attacks . ." - Chris Israel has nothing to explain. The security of the operation was well compartmented and the execution was competent. No one knew it was going down but those involved. "or why five mossad agents were arrested in New York on the day of the attack.. . ." - Chris Where did you learn that silly non-fact? Conspiracies 'R' Us.com? The story of the 'five' agents 'dancing' on their van was debunked in the first few days after the event. But why should facts intrude upon a perfectly constructed fantasy?

WTC Conspiracies vs The Islamist Conspiracy theories
    • Mark Lincoln
    • 09.11.09
    • 00:24

I have seen lots of twaddle about the WTC attacks. The "Jews" were behind it some say, others claim it was "Bush." There are those with TWA Conspiracy mania. TWA 800 was downed by terrorists, or it was shot down by the US Navy. I followed the coverage in Aviation Week, I read the accident report. That is the difference, the conspiracy theorists read each other, and folks who wish to be informed find out the facts. Some prefer satisfying emotional beliefs, and others prefer verified and verifiable facts. A notoriously right-wing broadsheet in Britain publishes a story no one else has, or has heard of, and it is suddenly proof of a vast conspiracy. The facts are the guy went to a mosque near his aunt's home when he was transfered to Washington, and then soon switched to another in another state. Now, in the minds of conspiracy theorists there is a connection between a wigged out Army shrink and 9/11. There was, he was ragged for being a Muslim after 9/11, that's all.

This is the truth; Muslims are responsible for 95% of the terrorism in the world. Timothy McVeigh was not a Christian. In fact most of those resposible for acts of domestic terrorism in the U.S. were not Christian. The anti-abortion zealouts who advocate the killing of abortion doctors are a tiny minority. The mainstream Christian groups disavow them unlike "mainstream" Muslim groups who support Islamic terrorism.

And how about you pull the blinders off, and see things as they really are? Please explain the reports that the shooter shouted "Allah Akbar" as he murdered his fellow US soldiers. If he said that, and there are multiple witnesses who said he did, then he is a Jihadist, plain and simple. Stop trying to be politically correct about this, we're not falling for it, or putting up with that. Harry

I think that he is convinced , as a large percentage of Islamic world , that Jews flue planes into WTC . And this state of perverted minds is the reason for most worlds ills . Beside , Israel is not obsessed with Fort Hood , but the affiliations of that murderer is significant for investigators . Most mosques must be intensely monitored , most have terrorist tendencies , at least they have a clear explanations for terror , of course not publicly .

For the same reason you are so obsessed with Israel and you see no evil when your darling Pal's or your darling Muslims terrorize the world. When were you honest to yourself about what is really happening in the Mid East and around the world? When have you seen the terror wave the Muslims spread throughout the world? What Hasan did shouldn't have come as a surprise to anyone. Hasan should have been kicked out out the military instead of being transferred to Ft. Hood. In a Muslim country he would have been imprisoned for the disloyalty. This is another example of the Muslim gratitude. What is really disturbing is how hard the American administration is trying to down play the shooting. I hope that the military isn't as cavalier about this significant terror attack from within. Muslims should be put on notice in the USA, if they live here they should be sure they know where their loyalties are, just as anyone else, no special treatment.

It's disgusting to see such a tenuous link brought up between Nidal Hasan and 9/11 highjackers just because they both happened to live in Virginia at some point. I really see no other reason of Haaretz publishing this article other than to stoke the flames of bigotry. Such filth would not be tolerated in the United States. Perhaps on Fox News Channel.

It is astounding how ignorance and bigotry trump knowledge every time. The investigation is ongoing, but so far has found no connection between Hassan and any terrorist organizations. It has not found any Jihadist connection. The evidence so far points to a mental breakdown due to stress and conflicting emotions of loyalty to the Army and is religion. One factor drawing attention is that few more than 400 psychiatrists available to treat disturbed Army soldiers, there are not enough shrinks for the shrinks.

Everthing relating to obvious islamic terrorism gets a free pass. Everthing relating to suspicion of Israeli wrongdoing must be investigated until guilt is found. You're a caricature, Linthwaite, you know that? A cartoon fit for airing on every Islamist child's television set. A Muslim, who worships at the same mosque as the 9/11 terrorists, screams "Allah Hu'Achbar" and blows away 13 Americans (not to mention wounding 30 more), and all you can say is 'Oh yeah, but what about Israel?'. OCD is alive and well in Yorkshire. Hey...maybe it was the IDF who implanted a device in your brain, causing you this disability. I think you should "investigate" that!

He didn't scream a hebrew or christian prayer. It is right in front of your face and your anti-semitism doesn't let you see the truth. Israel has never satisfactorily explained whether Israel had foreknowledge of the 9/11 attacks or why five mossad agents were arrested in New York on the day of the attack having in their possession 22 passports of varying nationalities, several soocks stuffed with thousands of dollars in cash, and a van which when tested was found to have been contaminated with explosives. Who were released several months after their arrest on the instructions of Dick Chertoff an American with dual Israeli nationality. Bet that doesn't get published
