On Thursday, Palestinian militants fired a barrage of nine Qassam rockets at the western Negev.
One of the rockets struck front yard of a home in the western Negev town and did not explode. Two other rockets landed in open fields - one outside Sderot and another near Kibbutz Nir Am. There were no injuries or damage reported.
In response, the Israel Air Force targeted two Qassam rocket launchers in the northern Gaza Strip, Army Radio reported.
Rockets have landed in the region on a daily basis, yet Sderot's chief security officer, Yehuda Ben Mamen, said the latest barrage prompted school principals to call and inquire as to whether classes would be in session. Ben Mamen replied that schools would be opened as per usual.
IDF: Seven arms smuggling tunnels discovered under Gaza-Egypt borderSeven tunnels used to smuggle weapons and militants from Egypt into Gaza have been uncovered by Israel Defense Forces operations over the past two days, the army said Thursday.
Some of the tunnels had electricity and lighting infrastructure, as well as ventilation systems. IDF troops demolished all of the tunnels in controlled explosions.
The IDF said the tunnels were used by Hamas to smuggle militants from Egypt into Gaza, as well as vice versa, and were also used to bring in weapons and explosives.
The army also found three explosive devices in the area, which were meant to target troops operating in the area. The devices were neutralized by the troops.

How pleasant for a pro-Palestinian poster to read what you've written which acknowledges that both sides are suffering in this conflict and that there must be a better way to achieve peace. Regards
So Dudi, you obvious believe in collective punishment..? The fact that Israel doesn't disconnect the electricity etc, shows that we are morally, way above our neighbours. The hardship which would be brought on many innocent babies, women, children, sick and the dying would not justify such a cruel and unnecessay show of strength....
You sit there in the comfort of your armchair in New Jersey and you have the Chuzpah to call Israeli's cowards...Why don't you get your butt over here and help to solve the problem instead of posting smug articles....My son, along with many brave Jews serve in the IDF protecting Israel's women and children......If you had suffered a war here in Israel you would realize that the best is to try and avoid serious confrontation...There are other ways to stop the quassams and I believe that they will find a solution without dragging this Country into war or similar.......
Easy for you to say, but Israelis have always tried to minimize casualties among civilians (even though i believe that the majority is not so-innocent) despite what Israel haters say. You also have to admit the immense pressure Israel is under, even from its best friend and ally: the US.
Are you sure? I admit that I don't know, but it seems that they are firing the quassams from close to the border for a reason. But like I said I am not sure and you are making a good point.
A band wide enough to prevent Kasams from hitting settlements would put the Gazans in to the sea.
I don't disagree but again all the ugly voices in the world would slam Israel for killing civilians. I would propose that Israel reoccupy and empty a band large enough to put kassams out of range of Israel. If they start using longer range rockets (AKA katyushkas) then Israel would extend the depth of that band.
I cannot believe that Jews allow themselves to be attacked relentlessly. If Israelis refuse to fight back, then they should abandon their country and give it to the Palestinians. Only cowards refuse to defend their women and children and the Jews in Israel are clearly cowards.
The pals keep firing mortors and quassams belauce the like haveing Merkava III's sitting in their back yard. People claim that the pals would stop if the "Westbank" settlements were dismanteled. Well gaza has proven the opposite. The settlements were dismantled and the rocket attacks increased exponentially. The pals will continue to fire rockets and quassams even if Isreal bowed to every pal demand once more gaza has proven this.
next mortar. Ha! No chance! Israel must and will diconnect the GAza Strip from sources of electricity, petrol and other supplies, and soon.
a true puzzle. why does israel not simply clear a buffer the width of the mortars' range? must be biding their time till the upcoming 'godfather' event, whereupon iran syria, hizzistan and hamastan are rubbed out in one go by eu, us and israel.
If the juice is still on: why is it still on?
Each and every site from whence these sick apes fire upon Israel should immediately be flattened without hesitation or apology.
People who elected Olmert are willingly heading Israel into perdition.
