Report: IDF believes Hamas has rockets that can reach Ashkelon
According to report, Hamas has 50 rockets in Gaza that reach Ashkelon, 20 anti-aircraft missiles.
By Yuval AzoulayThe Israel Defense Forces intelligence branch believes that Hamas has several rockets that can reach any point in Ashkelon, Channel 2 TV news said this weekend.
According to the television, a recent report also states that Hamas have anti-aircraft missiles which could hit any aircraft that flies over the Gaza Strip.
The report also stated that in the last year the Hamas have managed to smuggle over 40 tons of explosives through the Rafah crossing that they could attach to the Qassam rockets, creating a much deadlier weapon.
A military official told Haaretz this weekend that the fact that the Rafah crossing is being controlled by Hamas following its takeover of Gaza only adds to the concern that Hamas is continuing to arm itself.
According to the data in the report, Hamas have 50 rockers with a range of 22 kilometers. These rockets would be able to hit Ashkelon from the heart of Gaza, a fact that has defense officials concerned that a possible conflict between the IDF and Hamas may lead to the firing of these rockets.
An additional threat that is addressed in the report is Hamas' anti-aircraft missiles capabilities. According to the report, the Hamas has roughly 20 'Strella" anti-aircraft missiles.

I would hope they are doing an installation and finishing soon.
"This means a humanitarian transfer of all Arab populations who are unwilling to live in peace" Got the cattle trucks all ready, David?
"According to the television, a recent report also states that Hamas have anti-aircraft missiles which could hit any aircraft that flies over the Gaza Strip." Let's hope that Hamas also has some decent anti-tank missiles. Time for the powder puffs of the IAF and the IDF to sweat a little before they roll so arrogantly into Palestinian land.
There is no discrepance between what Iran and Hamas say and what they will do: mainly eliminating Israel from the map. But what about Egypt? What it says is as sweet as a melody for the West`s ears, what it does is anything that can weaken Israel. No wonder 40 tons of explosives were permitted to pass from Egypt to Hamastan.
Yes, you had said that a number of times. Maybe it is being installed. It would not be announced publicly. I suspect that something will happen in the near future. I hope you are all well. Cipora p.s there might be other reasons for military action in Gaza.
During that same war, the IDF Navy almost lost a ship that has the defense system. Systems have to be deployed and turned on.

4000++ ROCKETS still slammed into Israel during the Lebanese bombardment. WHAT DEFENSE??
The IDF Navy has defenses that could protect most if not all of Sderot and probably Ashkelon, too. They can be mounted on land as the US does in Iraq to protect major bases. It is a matter of will.
relocation and expoltion? how far and will buffer zone be habitated or not? push them out to 100 miles and creat a no mans land, maybe they come out with a 200 mile rocket. hey lets work on a finale salution to the arab and muslim problem. /
Does Hamas care for their people or just their racist lunatic jihad charter ideology.
Very well put. We have not even been able to count on the neighbour to stop smuggling on the border. Of course, the leaders are to blame. They had suppressed all political opposition, and therefore, it developed in mosques, and preached to by imams. Had the political leadership aimed at economic development and some rudimentary human rights, rather than whipping up hatred against the Jews and Israel, everyone would be better off.
Buffer zones must be created to move the missile launchers out of range. This means a humanitarian transfer of all Arab populations who are unwilling to live in peace. This strategy of using civilian areas to launch missiles at Israel creates an impossible situation. Israel must restore its deterrent. No nation would tolerate these constant attacks, neither should Israel.
But Israel is too humane to use it, for now. Perhaps someone should tell Hamas about Dresden before they experience similar?
Shoot down an Israeli aircraft or fire a deadly missle into the heart of an Israeli city would and should trigger a massive response. Turn of the lights and pound the leadership. I would expect nothing less. On the other hand, if Hamas starts to make sincere peace feelers, events could move in an entirely different way. I hope the latter will happen.
IDF is worried about long range rockets. So, take them out now, what are you waiting for. If Israel doesn't do what it has to do, it won't deserve to have a state. Barak was very weak as PM, he better act like a general now. Time is short.
Why is Egypt turning a blind eye to the illegal weapons smuggling? It's peace agreement is little more than an agreement not to attack on face value, but underlying remains its detest for Israel's right to exist and it's complacency in Hamas' attacks against the State of Israel. Perhaps its time Israel occupies the Rafah crossing and perhaps in doing so Hamas will learn to care more about it's citizens than it's Jewish neighbour! Egypt's complacency disgusts me. I can just picture her smerking at Israel - she is winning.
They have to adjust to the change in revenue. OPEC all of them have to adjust and adjust soon. If they don't know anything "living large" it is comming to an end.
Military intelligence is useless if it is not acted upon.

I dont think so.
Shouldn't Israel needs to think if Peace will present more danger than the present situation? At best Israel should consider the situation in Iraq & Lebanon etc..At worse Israel should consider the Islamic War against the World including Islamic countries like Egypt etc.. So, which Peace Israel is seeking ? And with whom. If there is a chance for Peace with the Arab & Islam why other countries including the US &Europe failed to achieve it.Egypt an Islamic country is at War with the Muslim Brotherhood for more than half a century. Israel should seriously consider questions like What price worth Peace ? What Peace worth ? The kind of Peace signed between Egypt& Jordan with Israel is no longer with us. The nature of Peace with the Arab/Islamic world is changed. Today in Gaza the War between Hamas & Fatah is an indicative which Peace Israel needs. The moderate Arab countries are only moderate to give Israel as a sacrifise lamb for their own salvation.
Didn't you (Haaretz) tell us, or should i say "convinced" us that the Disengagement from Gaza will boost the moderate palestinians and will be an important step towards peace!? At least you could apologize for spreading so much lies and helping to endanger the whole Country.
When your government fails to stop rockects after years of near daily attacks..it is time to build your own and fire back. Livni would want you to walk a rabid dog. Olmert would ask if you wanted to take it home. Fools.
"Peace officers" still at the helm.Time to disband this total money waste called the IDF,it only acts to transport sick pals to Israeli hospitals to be cured at Israeli expense. And to come back to fire rockets at Israel.
One could suppose that every additional rocket and every new anti-aircraft missile will ultimately translate into an ever more devastating Israeli response accompanied by an ever less concerned international reaction about "disproportionality".
