The Ashdod Magistrate's Court extended the remand of Nikolai Doroshev, a 26-year-old resident of Ashkelon who is suspected of raping and killing 15-year-old Leah Drinkin.
During the hearing, a police official asked that Doroshev's feet remain bound for fear that he will try to harm himself. "He is unpredictable and when he's in jail, he is bound to the bed," the official said.
Doroshev's attorney, Uri Nevo, said his client is in need of psychiatric evaluation to ascertain whether he is fit to stand trial. The judge then asked Doroshev if he had ever undergone psychiatric or psychological care in the past.
Doroshev replied that he was not prescribed any medication though he did attend a number of therapy sessions.
The judge referred Doroshev to the district psychiatrist for further testing. "It would also be advised to find a psychiatric hospital with guard protection nearby," the judge said.
