Public sector closing for Passover, from April 4
Osem and the Histadrut labor confederation are also shutting down too - for forced vacations
Ministries, local authorities and other public institutions will be closed during Passover week, from Wednesday, April 4, 2007.
Part of the private sector, in particular food producers such as Osem, will also shut down, as will the Histadrut labor federation.
No, it isn't another strike: it's organizations forcing their workers to take a vacation in order to cut costs and save on operating expenses.
The other side of the coin is that employees who are forced to work against their wishes on the holiday itself (not the intermediate days) are entitled to additional pay, between 50-150 percent based on a number of conditions.
However, the intermediate days of the holiday do not necessarily provide any benefits for employees, unless their collective bargaining agreement grants such benefits as extra pay or shorter work hours.
