Preschool teacher suspected of causing infant's death due to negligence
One-year-old Irit Berlin was found dead on Thursday in her Holon preschool.
By Roni Singer-Heruti and Haaretz CorrespondentPolice suspect a preschool teacher from Holon is responsible for causing the death of an infant due to negligence.
One-year-old Irit Berlin was found dead on Thursday in her preschool facility.
Police initially thought the infant died as a result of health problems from which she suffered.
However, a autopsy revealed Berlin died from choking caused by something external, such as clothing.
On Thursday, the preschool teacher called police and a Magen David Adom ambulance team to her facility. Paramedics who arrived on the scene pronounced Irit Berlin dead.
The preschool teacher told investigators she attempted to wake the infant from an afternoon nap and then noticed she had died.
There were no signs of abuse or other suspicious signs found on the infant's body.
The teacher was questioned by police under warning. Investigators are attempting to determine if the teacher moved anything from the infant's body before calling MDA and police.
