Palestinian authorities put up new signs in Arabic and English in new American-funded project.
By Associated Press Tags: Israel news Palestinians West BankPalestinian authorities in the West Bank have begun replacing Israeli-installed road signs bearing Hebrew script with new signs in just Arabic and English, according to a U.S. international aid agency.
The move is in preparation for a future Palestinian state.
Howard Sumka, of USAID, said the American-funded project is expected to take up to four years and cost about $20 million.
Israel captured the West Bank from Jordan in the Six-Day War in 1967, but has recently been reducing its military presence in West Bank towns under interim agreements intended to lead to Palestinian independence.
But the Hebrew road signs have so far remained.
