Palestinian woman attempts to stab soldier at checkpoint

By Haaretz Service

A Palestinian woman on Saturday attempted to stab an Israel Defense Forces soldier at the Tapuah checkpoint, south of the West Bank city of Nablus.

The soldier was not injured, and the woman was arrested and turned over to security forces for interrogation.

On Friday, troops patrolling Nablus shot and killed a 19-year-old Palestinian woman, witnesses and hospital officials said.

Witnesses said Beriza Aminawi was shot in the heart as she stood on the roof of her house.

The IDF in response said that while troops had entered the city earlier in the day and repeatedly clashed with Palestinian youths, they had not been in the area where Aminawi was killed.

Another militant was reportedly wounded in an exchange of fire in Nablus's Yasmina neighborhood, Army Radio reported.

The militant shot at the troops, who returned fire.

Palestinian youths clashed with troops who had entered the city in 10 jeeps earlier in the day, witnesses said.

The youths threw stones and bottles at the troops and burned tires on the roads. The soldiers responded with tear gas and rubber bullets. Three people were hospitalized due to gas inhalation, hospital officials said.

Troops also arrested two armed Palestinian militants carrying assault rifles as they drove through Nablus.
