PA officials to Israel: Don't deal with Hamas behind our backs
PA officials maintain that contact with Hamas is understandable only regarding IDF kidnapped soldier Shalit.
By Barak RavidA senior official in Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas' bureau met with Israeli officials several days ago to express the concern that Israel was going behind Abbas' back in an effort to reach a deal with Hamas regarding the Gaza Strip.
The Palestinian official wanted to know the meaning of the meeting between Ofer Dekel, the Israeli official responsible for issues relating to captive soldiers, and senior Hamas officials jailed in Israel.
"It looks like you're making a deal with Hamas," the Palestinian official said.
The Israelis participating in the meeting assured him that the meeting was related solely to the release of captive Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who was abducted near the Gaza border in June 2006.
"Contact regarding Shalit is understandable, but we hope there is no other contact and that you don't close some deal with them over the Strip," the Palestinian official is reported to have said.
Indicating that the suspicion is mutual, the Israeli officials said they were concerned that Abbas would reestablish a national unity government with Hamas. The Palestinian official dismissed the possibility and said, "Abu Mazen [Abbas] plans to wage all-out war on Hamas."

Why this official thought Israel would listen to him? This man doesn't remember that even 2 months ago HAMAS was his bedfellows in the Unity Government. He thinks Israel is his friend. She would destroy you both, whenever she is no longer need you, STUPID Fatah-men.
Israel is not your friend... It is comical to see the PA acting like a jilted lover even before the rift becomes public. Israel will do what the leadership feels in in their best interest, and who can blame them? Using Fatah as a "favorite pet" to inspire jealousy from Hamas is only the strategy of the moment. When you are no longer useful to Israel, they will discard you. The trick is to avoid breaking faith with the Palestinian people so that you will not be made redundant when that happens.
israel should threaten to release the 40 terrorists in suits so that hamas has enough people to hold a parlimantary session. abbas is in no position to make demands. he must either be put to the fire or resign. olmert should resign too. i nominate lieberman to take over.
The Palestinians are hilarious.
