Four of the injured in serious condition; accident caused by truck that swerved into oncoming traffic.

One person was killed and seven others injured Friday in a traffic accident involving a truck and two cars near Tiberias.

Four of the injured are listed as being in serious condition, one man's condition is moderate, and the other two were lightly hurt.

A Magen David Adom emergency medical team evacuated all seven of the injured to Poriya Hospital in Tiberias, although four of them, including a six-year-old girl, were later transferred to Rambam Medical Center in Haifa.

An initial Traffic Police inquiry revealed that the truck was traveling northbound and following a private car, and apparently struck the vehicle after its driver slowed due to a parked car. The driver, a woman, was lightly hurt.

In an attempt to avoid the collision, the driver of the truck swerved into the adjacent lane and hit an oncoming car. The 45-year-old driver of the car was killed, and five of its passengers injured, four of them seriously and one moderately.

The driver of the truck was lightly hurt.

The accident occurred on a narrow two-lane road, with extremely narrow shoulders. Several months ago, five people were killed in a car accident at a nearby section of the road.

Nonetheless, Traffic Police Chief Superintendent Nabil Isawi said the road is well built. "The reason for these accidents is wild driving," said Isawi. "There is no justification for such an accident. If the driver [of the truck] had kept his distance, there wouldn't have been an accident."
