Olmert: Groups using Goldstone Gaza report to attack us are 'hypocritical'

Facts and metrics speak stronger than emotions. That seems to be the classic debate between rational people and zealots. Quite often it also speaks to right versus wrong. I have heard many emotional statements from Israeli leadership but no facts, no independent investigation and no respect for Goldstone's efforts to engage Israel in the investigation. Israeli leaders have resorted to personal attacks on Goldstone. On the other hand, Goldstone has the facts, the photos, the videos, and the first-hand testimonies. Goldstone has left the door open for Israel to present facts. Goldstone has not engaged in personal attacks on any Israeli leader. It surely appears Goldstone has the credibility, the integrity and the commitment to truth and justice. Israel's actions over the last month affirm their fears that Israel's excesses against human rights are real.

Sir, may I raise a question: who is Mr. Olmert? When it comes to Mr. Shimon Peres who was one of the first to critizise the jewish South African judge regarding the IDF/ Pal. military behaviour during the Gaza campaign, many are waiting for the mistakes in this report. Obviously President Peres did not read the more than 500 pages, the same applies for the US Admin.

If what you are saying is that ALL violators of human rights and decent behavior (which would include so-called terrorists AND those waging the "war on Terror") should be sanctioned, I would agree with you. Goldstone has given the World a "wake-up call". The War on Terror is producing more terrorists then it is seeking to eliminate. It isn't working. There has to be a better way. It is just a pity for Israel that they are being held as the "first example".

One of the persistent arguments of the Holocaust Deniers and Hitler Lovers is that there is no 'evidence' that Hitler ordered the Holocaust or was even aware it happened. can I ask Olmert Why did he repeatedly extend Operation Cast Lead? And why when all objectives had been met did Olmert overrule barak and keep the IDF in Gaza? And as he has done this is he against the Goldstone Report not because it seeks answers to certain allegations, but because the allegations mean he could, if they are proved, end un at The hague as a war criminal sharing a cell with Karadzic. One more question, Olmert are your actions for the good of Israel, or are your actions an attempt to save yourself from being tarred a war criminal?

Olmert is a hypocrite because the war was not necessarry to stop Hamas's rockets. According to the Shin Bet Hamas wanted a renewal of the cease-fire. It was Israel that avoided this, although Hamas hardly asked more than aid organisations asked: open the Gaza border for civilian traffic.

NATO crimes in Yugoslavia ,despite Mary Robinson(then the UN HR chief) saying the NATO commanders should be prosecuted for war crimes. In Rwanda ,he had desisted from accusing Tutsis of causing unbearable suffering to Hutu refugees living in a junglle after victory of the Tutsi army. He compensates by accusing Israelis of causing suffering of pal Hutus ,the Gazans. He's a veasel ,eager for limelight and rewards.

Yes, when Richard Goldstone was prosecuting crimes in Rwanda and Yugoslavia he was just and good and respectful, but all of a sudden once he applies the same international standards of law to Israel (and in his own words because he LOVES Israel) he's out to get Israel. Oh yeah and he's a Jew which makes that even easier to believe. No one believes this logic anymore...this logic that if you critizize Israel's actions then you must desire to harm it. Nonsense!

This report will bounce around the UN and international circles for another six months to a year. The report has a life of its own.

...when he calls the Goldstone Report "an attack of hypocritical and self-righteous countries against Israel." He would have done better to have cooperated with the investigation in the first place. He is only making Israel look worse in the world community's view with this smug and ridiculous excuse....
